It was the annual ball of Fairy Tail. To recognise and celebrate the union between all guilds in Fiore, every year, Fairy Tail would generally host of ball in the people's favour.
You were a fairly new member to the guild, still adjusting to the upbeat feel of the atmosphere. People, though were friendly, found it difficult to have conversations with you. It didn't bother you that much. Mirajane was kind enough to take you on as an apprentice in the kitchens for the first few months to help you settle in.
Night had fallen upon the people of Magnolia, and people from various guilds began to turn up. You sat acutely at the entrance, smiling, and greeting people through the door. "Welcome," you grinned as another four people walked through. "Could I get your names marked off? Mira has tables arranged, I think."
The leader, a blonde man waved. "Oh, hey. I'm Sting. Master of—"
"Sabertooth," you blushed. "I know." You recognised the name instantly.
Sting went wide-eyed and began to giggle like crazy. He elbowed the dark-haired man beside him. "See Rogue? That's real respect."
The man called Rogue rolled his eyes. "Apparently so."
The other two girls, Yukino and Minerva introduced themselves, and the four of them walked in.
It was nice meeting new people. It appeared that Natsu's bragging of his Sabertooth counterpart had finally paid off.
The ball began; elegant music played as people swept out onto the floor. Amazingly enough, Mirajane had managed to turn the guild hall into a sophisticated ballroom. You stood inside for the first time, completely and utterly shocked. It was so beautiful, yet quite impossible. There was no longer a bar or a request board; even the second floor had completely dissipated into thin air. You never truly understood how she made it work.
"Wow. Isn't this spectacular?" Gushed a man to your right. You angled your head to see a cloaked man with smartly, parted blue hair. It was such a pretty colour.
You felt the need to respond out of kindness. "Yes, it is. Mirajane is definitely something." You nervously tucked a strand of (h/c) hair behind you ears as you could feel his mysterious gaze linger upon you.
He turned to face you completely. He had a pale complexion and olive-brown eyes. He put on a gentle smile and extended a warm hand. "My name is Jellal. It's a pleasure to meet you. Are you from Fairy Tail?"
You nodded, and shook his hand. "I've recently joined. I'm (y/n). What guild are you from? I don't seem to recognise you...sorry."
Jellal shook his head and waved his hands. "Oh no, I wouldn't expect anyone to have told you about me. You see, I am a dear friend of Erza, and I just snuck in to say 'hello'. I apart of an independent guild, and I'm not exactly meant to be here..."
You blinked. Once. Twice. Three times. "Oh." This man was looking for someone else, he wasn't exactly interested in you. "Right. I can take you to her, if you want." You lowered you eyes to the floor.
Jellal fidgeted slightly. He then grinned sheepishly. "This ball is very exquisite. I wouldn't mind taking advantage of this opportunity. My presence will go widely known once I find her."
You cocked you head to one side, not exactly understanding where he was going with this.
He offered you a hand. "One dance?"
Your stomach swelled with excitement and butterflies. You blushed at the notion. You then rested the palm of your hand on his. "One dance," you agreed.
The night moved swiftly and quite unknown. You and Jellal enjoyed yourselves thoroughly. You particularly loved the feeling of his hand on the small of your back. It made you feel light. And it made you feel safe.
Unfortunately a red-haired lady spotted Jellal from a distance. Without a single word, she dragged him out of the room in a heartbeat.
You didn't see him from then on.
But you would always wait for his return.
