"If I hear either of you say something rude the other again then... no dissections for Johanna and no football for Edward."

You heard the intake of breath they both took to prepare their lungs to argue with you, but thankfully Sherlock walked by the kitchen at the right moment. "Don't argue with your mother."

"Johanna started it," muttered Edward.

"No I didn't!" yelled your daughter.

"Did too!"

"Did not!"

"STOP!" you ordered. They had been bickering lately more than usual. You blamed it on school starting and the fact that they had to attend the same one now and see each other on playground, without you there as referee. "Go get your backpacks, we're going to be late," you said. They hopped off their chairs, pushing to beat each other out of the kitchen and up the stairs. You sighed and rubbed your eyes; it was only 8am and this was already the longest day of the week. Suddenly you felt two arms wrap around your abdomen and a sweet breath hovering by your ear. You leaned back into your husband and his hair tickled your temples.

"Try not to murder them today."

"Yeah, I'll try, but no promises," you huffed.

"But if you do kill them, you know who to call to investigate."

At about 12 o' clock, just as you were beginning to settle into your daily nap and relaxation time, your mobile buzzed. "What the hell is it now," you grumbled as you recognized the number on the screen as the school's number. "Hello?"

"Mrs. Holmes?" asked a sweet voice on the other end.

"Speaking."

"Could you please come down the school, the headmistress would like to speak to you."

"May I ask what this is about?" There was a pause on the end of the line.

"Your children." Well no shit Sherlock you thought. "Just please come immediately." You hung up without saying anything and hurriedly slipped out of your sweats and into something socially acceptable.

On the drive over, you ran through a mental list of worst case scenarios, trying to prepare yourself. It was no secret to anyone that Johanna and Edward were polar opposites. While Johanna spent her time working with her father, solving cases, and playing scientist, Edward spent all of his time either watching or playing sports. Granted he was only 5 (she was 7), but he was the sportiest 5 year old you knew. Their differences were the cause of many fights that usually ended with one of them in tears, and the other smirking triumphantly. Not only were their personalities different, but their looks as well. Johanna had inherited all of her father's looks, while Edward got your genetics. The only thing that tied him and Sherlock together were the curliness of their hair.

Once at the school, you parked and headed to into the administrative building. Shiny wooden beams lined the walls making you feel like you were in a parliament building and big windows cast out a view over the city of London. "You must be Mrs. Holmes," said a woman from a small window that looked into the main office.

"Yes that's me."

"Headmaster Wiggins is waiting for you in her office, right through here." You nodded and headed inside. "Down the hall, first door on the left."

"Thank you," you said, then walked down the hall, and after taking a deep breath, opened the door. You saw Johanna and Edward first, sitting side by side in chairs against the wall. Johanna clutched a bandaged hand against her and Edward held an ice pack to his knee. Well, it definitely wasn't your worst case scenario. You expected Edward to have a fork sticking out of his hand and half of Johanna's hair cut off. You looked to your right and there was Headmistress Wiggins, a very angry look clouding her futures.

"Mrs. Holmes," she said, taking on a very fake and very high voice, "how nice of you to join us."

"What happened? Were they fighting with each other again? I'll take them off your hands right now and deal with the discipline at home, and believe me, there will be discipline." Your eyes were on fire as you glanced back at your children. They cowered under your stare. Good, they should feel guilty. They should know it's never okay to fight with each other at school or in any public place.

"They were not fighting with each other," she stated. "Johanna, would you like to tell what happened?" Johanna squirmed in her seat, but went dead still as she caught your eye.

"Billy and them... They started calling Edward names and pushed him down and were going to punch him and I saw them from across the playground so I ran over and stopped them." You looked admiringly at your daughter - she had stood up for her brother.

"And how did you stop them?" prodded Headmistress Wiggins. Johanna looked down at her lap.

"I punched them."

"How many boys did you punch?" you asked quickly, and you saw the Headmistress' head snap towards you.

"Three."

Pride swelled in your heart, but you tried to hide it. "Thank you for calling me down here, I will make sure this never happens again." You motioned for the two to get up and follow you out the door. You waited till you were in the car, both of the kids buckled and in the back seat staring up at you begging silently for mercy. "Who wants ice cream?"

"What?" they asked simultaneously, their jaws dropping.

"Listen, standing up for your brother was a very brave thing to do. Family helps family, blood helps blood. That's how it should be. It makes me very happy to know that you cared enough about your brother to defend him. And as for the punching... While I don't condone violence, I do condone sticking up for one another. Plus, that's a pretty badarse bandage you got on your knuckles."

"Mummy? Is that you?" asked Edward, referring to your radical like change in behavior. You smiled and ran your fingers through his curls.

"Yes it's me. And we better go now, your father is waiting for us at the ice cream shop."

While the kids played arcade games off to the side, you told Sherlock about the situation. "Three boys?" he asked incredulously.

"One right after the other."

He smiled and looked over at the two of them. They were finally getting along, playing a 2 player game. "I didn't know Johanna had it in her."

"Well I think the endless murder scenes and crime tv shows inspired it somewhat," you teased. Sherlock smirked at you, then went back to studying his children - you decided to study him. His face was serious, analyzing. Although he was stone still, you saw his mind moving swiftly behind his eyes. He was thinking deeply about something, and you wanted to know. "Penny for your thoughts," you said.

"Just- I'm experiencing a new emotion."

You chuckled. "And what is it?"

His lip quivered in thought, then he darted his eyes towards you momentarily. "Pride."
