"Seokjin hyung bought me tickets to the Big Bang concert!"

"There we go with Seokjin hyung again," Jihyun complains. "Jeez, you really never stop talking about him."

"Can you just shut up?" Seojun snaps. "You already know that I'm running on an hour of sleep, why do you still make stupid comments like that?"

Jihyun raises her eyebrows. "Damn, sorry."

A stifling silence makes its way between the three as Seojun links arms with Jungkook, resting her head on his shoulder. A little while later, she asks quietly, "He bought tickets for the both of you?"

Jungkook nods, starting to feel a little guilty. "Yeah. Sorry if you wanted to come, he only bought two."

Seojun shakes her head, smiling at him. "No, it's fine. I can go to one of their concerts another time."

"Cool." Jungkook lets out a quiet sigh of relief and threads their fingers together as he gives Seojun's cheek a peck, frowning when Jihyun makes gagging noises.

"You guys are disgusting."

。。。

"Jimin and I talked yesterday."

Jungkook pulls his gaze from the TV to his friend, who is sitting next to him, anxiously wringing his hands together in his lap with a hesitant grin on his face. "Really?"

"Yeah," Taehyung nods, "for... hours." His tongue darts out to wet his lips. "He told me about his parents, and why he was nervous about dating me, and- everything. He really opened up to me yesterday, and I," Taehyung pauses, sighing happily, "I'm so happy."

"That's great," Jungkook says, and the two boys are all smiles as Taehyung continues.

"Jimin is visiting his parents tomorrow, and he's bringing me along. He's planning on telling them about- us." Taehyung fiddles with the ends of his sleeves. "I'm really nervous."

"You guys will be fine," Jungkook assures. "I mean, no matter how homophobic they are, Jimin is still their son. They're not gonna hate him." He pauses for a moment. "I mean they might be angry for a while, but they're going to have to learn to accept it."

"Hopefully."

"Yeah."

A faint ding! is heard, and the two turn to their respective phones to check it. Jungkook's phone screen is lit with a notification.

Seojun noona: Are you at home?

Jungkook: No, I'm at a friend's house. Why?

Seojun noona: When do you think you'll be back? I have to tell you something.

Jungkook: Maybe a half hour? That's fine, right?

Seojun noona: Yeah, that's fine. See you later! ❤️

Jungkook: See you! ❤️

"Ooh, hearts?"

"Shut up."

。。。

The couple shares a quick kiss as Jungkook enters the apartment, pulling his boots off. Settling down on the sofa, he asks, "So what did you want to tell me?"

Seojun purses her lips. "Don't... Don't get too upset or anything, okay?"

Unease settles in Jungkook's stomach. "Okay."

"I think we should break up."

An chilling feeling of dread pierces Jungkook's chest as he becomes uncomfortably aware of his pounding heart. Questions, so many questions, form in his mind, but when he tries to ask them, his tongue seems to be tied and all that comes out is a stammered, meek, "Why?"

Seojun presses her lips together and takes a moment before answering. "This isn't going to work out."

"But why?" Jungkook is aware that he may sound desperate, but at this moment, he doesn't care. He needs answers.

"You..." She frowns. "Uh, it might sound kind of crazy, but I don't think you actually like me?" The end of her sentence becomes more high pitched, making it sound like a question rather than a statement.

Jungkook has to remember to breathe. "What?"

Seojun laughs awkwardly, although Jungkook finds nothing humorous about the situation. "I don't think you actually like me," she repeats. "I think you might've convinced yourself that you have any feelings for me."

"Why would you say that?" Jungkook says, tears beginning to prick at his eyes. "I really like you."

"Do you, though?" She exhales loudly. "Sorry, that came out a lot more bitter-sounding than I wanted it to."

"Why do you think I don't like you?" Jungkook queries, swallowing against the lump forming in his throat. "If I've done anything to upset you, I'm really sorry."

"You haven't done anything," Seojun quickly assures, placing her hand over Jungkook's to stop the boy's hand from trembling. "Don't worry. I just feel like..." She withdraws her hand, and Jungkook resists the urge to take it again. "...you're just going to end up dumping me anyway. So it would be better if we just ended things now, right? If we ended it on good terms?"

"Good terms?" Jungkook echoes hollowly. "You think this is good terms? You're dumping me, and I really don't understand why-" He sniffs and furiously wipes at his eyes. "I really, truly like you."

Seojun just shakes her head. "No, you don't."

A suffocating silence blankets the atmosphere before Jungkook speaks again. "So this is it?" he asks quietly. "This relationship is... over?"

Um, yeah," answers Seojun, shrugging. "Sorry. I just think we'd both be better off like this."

"Well," Jungkook wipes away any wetness around his eyes and sniffs a bit before forcing a smile. "I'll be leaving now." He stands up, willing himself to keep the false smile in place just until he's out of her apartment, and Seojun opens the door for him.

"See you later," she says hesitantly. "Sorry, again."

Jungkook just shrugs, muttering a hasty bye as he leaves before pulling out his keys and somehow fitting them into the keyhole as tears blur his vision. He manages to stay relatively calm until he closes his door, after which his face crumples and he heaves a silent sob.

Pulling out his phone with shaking hands, he goes through his contacts and clicks the name of the person that he wants to comfort him the most.

Seokjin hyung ❤️
