In the summer, grounders often flocked to a lake deep in the middle of the woods to cool off after a long day. Though this lake was usually crowed, and you would always get a few warriors who would try and enforce some 'pool rules.'

"No splashing!" They would holler, "no jumping in!"

Lexa knew you despised this, so one morning, because you were both free, she said that she had a surprise for you, and started to lead you into the woods.

You felt so special as she held you by the hand, leading you deeper into the woods. Like you were her life line.

When you got to a dip in the ground, she ran up behind you and covered your eyes, startling you.

"Hey!" You protested, hearing her laugh.

"Don't want to ruin the surprise." So you carried on walking. Every time there was something that you could trip over, she warned you, though you often tripped anyway.

"You have to be more careful," she would chuckle, sending you into fits of giggles as you tried to swipe her hands playfully away from your eyes, though you actually really loved the closeness. Even with the heat, her hands didn't smell of sweat; instead, they smelled of lusciously green pine leaves, and you were also catching a faded smell of peaches.

"We're here," chorused Lexa, and removed her hands from your eyes, and instead she took your hand to lead you forward as your eyes adjusted to the light. Before you, a sprawling mass of water stood hidden by the sleepy willow and pine trees that surrounded it. Waver falls fed into the main body, and the water shon like it was made of glass.

Gasping at its beauty, you turned to your now smiling girlfriend.

"I knew you would be impressed," she chimed before you could say anything.

"It's...." you stammer, still amazed, "it's beautiful. How the hell did you find it?"

"No one else knows about it," she said proudly, "I found it whilst chasing a deer."

"Wow, Lexa, than-" but before you could thank her, she shoved you hard into the water, and jumped in after. The cold slammed into you as if it were trying to put up a fight, wrestling as you re-emerged from the depths. Now, as you stood with it at waist height, it felt glorious against the glaring backdrop of the summer heat.

Lexa was practically glowing.

"We could have just walked in," you growled playfully, but she shook her head, still in laughing fits.

"Then I wouldn't get to see you flail around in the air like a chicken trying to fly."

"Oh," a smirk crept onto your lips, "is that how you want to see me?"

"Hm..." She was putting on a very cute show of being confused, raising her eyebrow and putting her had to her chin, "I wonder."

"What about.." Instead of finishing your sentence, you leaped on top of her, sending her toppling over. Since she was in shallower water, your heads were still in the air. For a second, you were worried that she would be angry, but she just lay there laughing, spine tinglingly hard. You laughed too, happiness practically drowning your soul. After a while, her hand reached up to your hair, and rung through the braids which she had helped you do this morning. Sexual tension laced around you briefly, but then you realised:

You were lying on top of Lexa. Commander Lexa.

"Y/N.." She studied you, and her eyes started to widen. Was she looking at something on your face? Did you have a spot? Or a rash? You started to have a meltdown inside your head, but all she came out with was:

"..Are you blushing? Oh my god, you are blushing!" She twisted her body so she now lay beside you, and smiled, chanting , "someone's blushing!"

"Am not!" You childishly cross your arms and make your best 'the cookie jar is empty' fed up face. With a wiry smile, she mimicked your position exactly, making the euphoria fill the air once again. You thought that you were going to die of laughter, gasping for air.

Out of nowhere, a spray of water enveloped cheeks, and Lexa stood in slightly deeper water, with a challenging grin.

"Now, Lexa," you put on a mockingly threatening vibe, "this is how splash wars start!" Over dramatically, you turned to the woods, and nodded, as if to signal for reinforcements that were actually non existent.

Slowly swivelling your head, you turned to splash Lexa back, but she was nowhere to be seen. All of a sudden, you were flooded with worry.

What if she had been ambushed? What if she drowned?

"Lexa?" You called out, "where are you!?"

"Here!" a voice behind you shouted, and the commander emerged from the water, and launched herself onto your back. Laughing loudly and kicking in protest, you sent both of you tumbling under the surface, the water cooling your previously red cheeks.

You saw her below you, smiling through the reeds and occasional river fish. She mouthed the words 'pay back'. Quickly, she pulled you into a watertight embrace, and pressed her lips against yours. Though it had been short due to your lack of air, the kiss was utterly magical. Amongst the cold of the lake, her skin and lips seemed to be glowing with warmth, drawing you ever closer into her arms.

On coming out of the water, she gripped your hand in hers, not too tight that you felt pressured, but not too loose that you would feel estranged.

"That was..." you stuttered, gulping in air, "utterly amazing." She nodded at you, smiling, and said:

"You know what, chicken?"

"What?" You studied her, and she cracked a cheeky grin.

"You're still blushing."
