S A M
Beyond the point of talking with our History teacher, the class was typically a swift breeze. A lot less stressful, for the most part. She did teach, but for us. We take no homework. No nothing.Giving us another free day from that. Which we rightfully deserved.
Mike and I walked side by side with each other to the door. With triumph, resisting the urge to grab each other's hand, and squeeze it tight.
We met Ashley and Chris in the halls. They gave us warm, welcoming smiles as we had approached. They were always that way.
Ashley was first to speak up, eyes fixated on Mike. "How are you feeling?" She asked purely concerned."Okay." He said. "Can't complain."
She smiled. "Good." Her eyes then turned to me. "How about you?"
I smile. "I'm good."
"Good." She smiled back.
Our conversation prolonged, as me and Mike exchanged glances. Ashley's voice returning brought us to lose focus on each other.
"How about we all go to lunch on our break? Catch up on what's new between the two of you?" She recommend.I nod, looking at Mike to see his answer. He nodded too which led a grin to tug at my lips. What was really known was our special little secret. What they were to find out, the world could know, and we wouldn't honestly care.
Do I feel guilty for not telling them? Very minimally. But, if we tell them, would I feel guilty? Hell yeah. That only would cause problems. And that's the last thing I need. Problems.
"Great." Ashley smiled, gripping Chris' hand tightly. "We'll meet you guys at the Café down the street."
"Great." I reply.
Ashley and Chris walked down the hall, hands entwined.
Mike looked at me with a smile, as I had smiled back. We walked a distance behind them, no gap between us. Our shoulders rubbing up against each other's, no care within either of us.
Our hands would occasionally tap, which made both of us smile. Mike would sometimes try to grab mine as a flirtatious tease. It made me giggle.
But otherwise, we were disguised as just friends. Who would know. . .

We got into my quaint car, as Mike and I swapped positions. I wanted to drive. Too much thrill for just one day with his little scheme this morning. He would've done it again. Probably would've ended up racing Chris down the street if they really wanted to bug me.
I kept one hand on the wheel, the other gripping his left hand. Our hands pushed together like two pancakes.
"I gotta say, we make pretty good liars." He commented leading an involuntary giggle to escape my tight lips.
I chuckle. "We're proud of this, why?"
He shrugged, running his hand from the top of his face, to the bottom. Messing around with his black hair. "Because. We're that mature."
"What's so mature about keeping secrets?"
"Everything," he replies, "every little thing."
I show him a straight face, struggling to not stretch my lips into a smile. I clear my throat. "That wasn't funny. . . Or cute." I lie.
"You loved every bit of that stupid comment."
"Did not." I protest.
"Admit it."
"No," I smile devilishly, pressing my lips gently together.
He stares at me fondly and laughs, his eyes shifting to face the road, as did mine. God, this boy.

We arrive in the parking lot, shadowing close behind Ashley and Chris. I pull my hand abruptly away from him, making him pout.
This boy. Oh my god.
We took the spot beside Chris' black Ford. The car was put in park, and the keys were removed from the ignition.
I pushed my body out of the car, as Mike had done the same. Meeting the other couple near the silent Cafe's entrance.
We got inside, and put in our four orders for our warm and toasty drinks. I ordered a cappuccino. Ashley ordered a caramel macchiato. Mike ordered a bland black coffee, as did Chris. Inserting the extra spark of flavor from creamers, and sugars.
Ashley and Chris found a table as Mike and I waited patiently for our orders up at the counter. Once received, I took my cappuccino, taking a long sip. Foam coating the top of my lip.
Mike stared at me with a mischievous smile, release a soft chuckle.
"What?"
He grinned, taking a sip of his warm drink. His hazel eyes trailing off. "I want to kiss you so bad right now."
My mouth hung open as I released a giggle, licking the residual foam off of my lip. "Not the time, Michael." I nudge his shoulder roughly but playfully as we walked over to Chris and Ashley. Unaware they were watching us the entire time.
We both took a seat across the table from them, placing the drinks all down. They took what was theirs and had a taste.
"Okay," Ashley swallowed her mouthful of caramel macchiato, smiling at all of us. "So. About you two. Fill us in. What's been happening?"
Him and I exchanged short glances, and stared at the two. He allowed me to begin talking. "Nothing much recently, but the past two weeks have been--" I couldn't find the right words.
But he did. "Indescribable." Mike added, leading me to smile at his assisting manner.
"Right." I nod. "That's the word."
"Start from the beginning." They asked politely.
Mike did the talking this time. "When we first got back, it started simple. Besides the fact we were interrogated, which was pretty chill so we can't complain about that." He sighed. "Not until Sam came home with this ass hole. His hands all over her."
I could sense he was heating up. My hand fell above his thigh, rubbing it secretly to calm him down. It seemed to work.
"Who?"
My breaths hitched, feeling a shiver crawl down my spine. "Jason, from the-- animal shelter." I gulp, cringing at the thought. Just his name frightened me. Him pulling something like that. Ugh.
"Let's move on." Mike recommended
I nod, clearing my throat. "Yeah. Good idea."
Beyond that point, we gave them the scoop on everything. The car. The offset balance. And added in the snowball fight to boost the mood. Leaving out the fact we sort've entered a mild make out session. That's besides the point.
But most importantly. There was something they knew. Something that they saw. Made my body shake hearing about it.
Do they know. . .
