As my alarm clock woke me, I grimaced in pain. My body was covered in fresh scratches and bruises from the night before.
Still, I readied myself for school. My mother was not at her usual spot in the kitchen. I quickly dismissed it and yelled goodbye before heading to school.
The whole building was in shock. Apparently, they had found Kaleb and had yet to find Jayden. It was just as I had hoped.
I slapped a look of concern on my face before grabbing things from my locker and heading to class. Elise wasn't at her locker, which was strange since I always got here a few minutes before she did.
Had she stayed home? Hopefully, I hadn't upset her. No, I shouldn't have. If anything, she should be delighted that I saved her from such disgusting beings.
Quickly, I arrived at my classroom and sat down at my seat. The few students in the room sat in circles and gossiped. As I entered the room, I heard my name here and there.
"Do you think it was Tyler?"
"No, he's too nice. Plus, I don't think he would go so far as to murder someone."
"Are you sure? He rarely talks to anyone."
"Yeah. We've talked a few times, he seems nice."
The teacher tapped on the chalkboard, drawing everyone's attention.
She cleared her throat before beginning, "As some of you may know, there has been a tragic incident on campus. If any of you know anything about the death of Kaleb Whitenhower, please report to the office immediately. All tips will be taken anonymously."
There was a pause. The students looked at each other, tension thick in the air. No one moved from their seat.
"Due to the incident, all students are dismissed from classes for the rest of the week. That will be all," The teacher said, wiping her eyes.
I choked down a smile. A whole week? The things I could accomplish in the remaining days of the week.
As solemn as possible, I gathered my things and left the building.
Left past the flower shop, across the crossway, down the street and to the right.
I recited the directions as I made my way towards Elise's house. It was a small row home, but lovely all the same. My heart began pounding as I made my way up the steps. By the time I raised my fist to knock, the sound of my heart was blasting in my ears.
Knock, knock, knock.
I held my breath, waiting. The door cracked open.
"Hello?"
I looked down, finding the source of the voice. A little girl, four or five perhaps, looked up at me with big, hazel eyes.
"Hello," I smiled sweetly, "I'm looking for Elise."
The little girl made quiet 'oh' before running into the house. I waited nervously, shifting my weight from side to side. The door opened fully, this time revealing my beautiful Elise.
"Oh, hello," She said, "Sorry about my little sister. Would you like to come in?"
Although I so desperately wanted to enter her home, I declined.
"No thank you, but I just wanted to inform you that there will be no school for the remainder of the week," I smiled, watching Elise intently.
"Oh, thank you," She smiled politely, "Will that be all?"
"Er, yes," I nodded, "See you around!"
Elise waved before closing the door. I smiled as my heart melted.
Oh, Elise, the things you do to me!
