ONE YEAR LATER

Ariana walked down the school hallway, while anxiously biting her lip. Last night was rough. The poor girl hadn't gotten any sleep because of the memories from last summer resurfacing. The first day of junior year was proving to be hard to get through. She usually tried to not look like a nervous wreck, but since it was the one year anniversary of that fateful night, her ticks were getting worse than ever. Anxiety,,, it was getting the best of her.

It felt like someone was going to attack her, just as those two monsters had attacked the blonde. She was helpless, small and could never defend herself, just like the boy that night. The passing days felt like an endless horror movie that no one knew about, and would never believe.

What about him? Was he dead? He had to be, after what was done to him. And god, was it an unusually gruesome death. Ariana lost faith in just about everything after that. She kept up the act, but she couldn't believe in salvation after that night. Never again.

Oddly enough, no bodies had ever been reported in Beacon Hills since then. She was sure since she anxiously watched the news, and he still hasn't been found.  Her best bet; his body was eaten.

Ariana told herself to stop thinking about that; she needed to focus on school now. But why can't she get over it? Get control of her life?

It was a year ago, but somehow resurfaced in her mind every couple of months, and began eating her alive all over again. Time just stands still now.

She walked into class, smiling at her new teacher and taking a seat in the back. The bell rung as the last student walked in. Ariana tuned out the math teacher's welcome, glancing around at her classmates. But then, it happened.

Her heart almost stopped beating upon seeing his golden hair, baby blue eyes, deep dimples, him in all his glory. It was her biggest fear. The boy from her nightmares, the face haunting her every time she slept. She eyed the oblivious teen in amazement. There wasn't a scratch, cut, bruise or scar on him.

He's fine. He's safe. He's real.

Ariana blinked about 20 times. It was like her body was frozen in shock. How much time had she worried for nothing? Did that night even happen? Was she actually actually delusional all this time?

There he was, sitting in math class and fiddling with his stupid little batman bracelet like everything was fine, and not completely traumatized. In that moment, she felt like the fabric of everything was tearing apart. Was anything real?

What was she thinking? It was a long time year ago. What happened wouldn't define him so much that he couldn't play with a batman bracelet, if it did happen.

But it was undeniable, she reasoned, that something was off. There was no report, there were no scars on his body, and no explanation for what those creatures were. Granted, it's not like she called the police. How would he have explaind the attack to the police? She wouldn't know how to either! But, on the bright side, maybe Ariana could finally forget about it, since he was fine. Or at least, be done with the guilt.

"Luke Hemmings?"

"Here."

Luke's eyes continued to wander around the room, since he was almost bored to fucking death. He eventually made eye contact with Ariana. He smiled sheepishly, then smirked once hearing her heart rate rapidly speed up. She probably finds him attractive, or at least he thought.
