Yeah it's been a while I know. And I'm really really sorry for that! I swear all I ever do in these notes is apologise for not uploading on time but life is complicated and makes it hard to stick to schedules.

But honestly thank you all for sticking with me and for all your lovely comments and giving me the motivation to write!! :D <3 hope you enjoy this chapter! Sorry for any mistakes I haven't checked it.

The next few days were both better and worse for the Shadowhunters of the New York Institute. Better, at least for Isabelle, Jace and Clary, because they finally had their brother back; Alec’s wounds continued to heal with no further problems and the strange affliction that had previously seemed to be plaguing him had remained absent.

But it was worse because said brother spent nearly all his time in his bedroom, sitting next to the bed that contained the unconscious body of his boyfriend Magnus Bane. He refused to leave his side for longer than a few minutes; he barely slept, hardly ate and said no more than a few words to anyone, all spoken in the same dead voice.

The Silent Brothers had come and gone after examining Magnus and declaring that a very powerful magic which they had not come across before, was causing his slumber and that, for the moment at least, there was nothing they could do.

Their parting words hadn’t given anyone any hint of comfort: If he did wake up, it would be of his own accord and by no one else’s doing.

Despite copious attempts at coaxing Alec out and back into the outside world nothing seemed to work and eventually Alec had snapped, yelling for Isabelle to just leave him alone.

So the others had to continue without him. The frequency of demon attacks was rising again as were the number of demons found in each group. The following week Jace, Isabelle and Clary fought a group of over twenty-five Racknarz demons-large, spiny things with skeletal tails and foul breath-over at a black market antique square. Luckily no one got injured but the Shadowhunters were getting increasingly concerned.

They had once joked that the Shadowhunter motto should be changed to: Shadowhunters, you think things are bad now? Well they are only going to get a hell of a lot worse.

Little did they know how true those words were.

A week later Alec was sat in his usual position by Magnus side, sitting in the uncomfortable wooden chair next to the bed, elbows resting on the mattress and head in his hands, eyes roaming across Magnus’ face-something he could never get tired of doing.

He sighed loudly in the silence and rubbed his forehead against the dull, throbbing pain that had lingered on and off there for the past few days. It came and went in waves; growing to a crescendo of white hot agony, searing through his skull like someone was stabbing him with a flaming poker, and making his eyes water before ebbing away to leave just a gentle ache that could easily be ignored.

Alec stood up to stretch his legs but was suddenly hit by an extreme case of vertigo and he would have fallen to the floor if he hadn’t managed to grab the back of his chair at the last second.

Breathing shallowly Alec squeezed his eyes shut and waited for it to pass. It was probably because he wasn’t getting enough sleep, he thought. Blinking rapidly so his vision would clear he took a deep breath and began walking stiffly around the room.

It was eerily silent except for the sound of his slow, heavy footsteps.

No Jace pounding the stuffing out of a punch bag in the training room. No Isabelle singing loudly and endearingly badly in the kitchen. Not even any bickering from Simon and Clary as he tried to teach her how to play some mundane game where you stole cars and ran away from the police.
