I woke up to blackness. It was as if I was floating, suspended in the darkness. I looked around but all I saw was black. I looked down and saw I was wearing a hospital gown. I was becoming more and more confused by the second. "Is this death?"

I shook my head, hoping that I would either wake up or go to heaven or hell already. I let out a frustrated sigh and closed my eyes. I heard a very faint whispering that seemed to come from nowhere and everywhere at once. I snapped my eyes open and looked around, but still, darkness. "Uh hello?" The whispering was becoming louder and louder, I realized it was saying my name.

"What do you want!?" I shouted, becoming angrier. "Jade. Jade." The whispering continued to increase in volume until it sounded like someone was yelling at the top of their lungs. "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU WANT!!?" The whispering suddenly stopped, it was dead silent.

I looked around, hoping for something besides the bleak darkness, but it didn't change. Then I heard a sound, it sounded like the beeping of a machine. I closed my eyes, trying to block the annoying sound, but it only seemed to get louder.

I opened my eyes slowly, fully prepared to yell again, when I realized that it was not dark anymore. When I opened my eyes I was met with a bright blinding light and I immediately closed my eyes again. When I opened them again I realized I was in a hospital room. I turned my head to the side and saw my mum sitting in a chair next to the bed I was lying on. I realized she was crying and I was confused. "I'm alive, aren't I? Why is she crying...unless their tears of happiness or something." I shrugged internally and tried to lift my arms to show my mom that I was alright. However, when I tried to move my arms I realized they were bound to the bed with thick leather straps. I tried to move the rest of my body, but quickly realized that my whole body was bound. I started to panic and I looked over to my mum again.

I stared in disbelief when I saw that she wasn't in fact sitting right next to my bed. When I looked harder I could see that there was a wall of thick glass between me and her.  I started struggling with the leather straps, about to go into full panic mode when the door to my room opened. I looked over and saw a nurse in all white, with a bun of blonde hair piled on her head. "Hey what is this!? Why am I tied up and why is there glass between me and my mum!?" I yelled at the nurse, getting angrier. I could hear the heart monitor jump and speed up, but I ignored it. The nurse walked over to my bed, scribbling on a clipboard. "Oi! Miss nurse lady are you going to answer me!?" The nurse peered at me from behind her thin glasses. "Ms. Greystroke, there is no reason to raise your voice." But what kept me silent was not what she had said but what was in her eyes. Pity.
