"Lord, I was born a ramblin' maaaaan. Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I caaaan." Pressing his voice even higher and firmer into the lyrics, Dean smashed his palms against the wheel of his Impala to the melody of one of his favorite songs. "And when it's time for leavin', I hope you'll understand, that I was born a ramblin' man."

Just as Dean was about to one-handed strum to the guitar chords, a hand reached forward to twist the volume down. When the song slowly disappeared and the care filled to the brim in silence, the man in the passenger seat cleared his throat.

"Dean?"

Feeling just a little bit of overreacted anger and irritation, Dean huffed out a grunt. Anyone else would've done this to him, shut off one of his favorites, he would've put a knife in their knee. But all Dean could do now was sulk and press on the break at a red light.

"I sincerely hope that there is never a 'time for leavin''." The calculating sadness behind the remark sat heavily in the air. "I know that you have spent your life traveling and living in this car but we have a home now. Are you saying that you would rather leave-"

"It's a song." Dean tried to swallow the sour taste forming on the back of his tongue. "Just a song."

Castiel hummed under his breath as he turned his eyes out his window at the trees blurring by. "You sing it with heart."

A couple miles passed as that last statement hung in the air like damp clothing forgotten on a line. The radio silence only made Dean more anxious as his mind raced with what his husband was saying. They had a life together now. A mortgage. Adoption papers with all the i's dotted and t's crossed. A puppy who slobbered on their bedsheets. It was home to Dean now. He didn't know when it became so but after this conversation he finally realized it. He wasn't a ramblin' man anymore.

"Hand me my phone." Dean asked with a rough voice as he held out his palm.

Cas shuffled through the cup holders until he found the iphone. He levelled Dean with a curious stare as he handed it over. "You shouldn't text and-"

"I'm not." Dean took the phone and the next chance he got he smoothly twisted the wheel under the tires rolled over gravel. Putting the car in park, Dean unlocked his phone and thumbed through his music.

Castiel was to ask what they were doing stopping when they had a dinner to get to when a slow melody entered the atmosphere. His breath caught in the back of his throat and his eyes widened when he met Dean's stare and saw nothing but love as deep as his soul ventured.

"The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful, stop me and steal my breath. Emeralds from mountains and thrust towards the sky never revealing their depth. Tell me that we belong together, dress it up with the trappings of love. I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above." The hunter's voice rose and fell along with the melody as though the words were coming from inside of him and not from the man singing on his phone. A few tears threatened to be known as he sucked in a breath and continued through what he thought was a butchered cover. "I'll be your cryin' shoulder, I'll be love suicide, I'll be better when I'm older, I'll be the greatest fan of your life."

Castiel felt the tears pull on the dimples of a smile that almost ached at his jaw. His husband's voice was sweeter than honey tea and made his heart quake with each new lyric. Somewhere along the line Cas realized that this song was sung with more heart than any Dean had ever sung before.

"And rain falls angry on the tin roof as we lie awake in my bed. You're my survival, you're my living proof my love is alive and not dead..." Without a pause after that lyric Dean unbuckled his seatbelt and slid over to slide his palm against Cas' scruff and bring their noses to shyly touch. His next breath mingled with his husband's. "Tell me that we belong together, dress it up with the trappings of love. I'll be captivated; I'll hang from your lips instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above."

"Dean." Cas knew the song went on, he knew there was more to the story, but he couldn't stand another second without Dean's lips on his. And as he surged forward and they melted together, the song kept playing through the car. It was forgotten as Cas lost himself in finally being settled in the knowledge that Dean would never leave.

As the song came to a close, Dean pulled back to smile softly at his love and brush some hair from his angel's forehead. "I'll always be yours."

Cas closed his eyes at the tears and buried his sobs against Dean's chest.

The hunter smiled down at his husband. "I'll never leave you. That I promise."
