"Sorry to interrupt but I want to do something today."Ender said. I wiped the small tear from my eye and faced him.

"Yeah, and where are we going." I asked, one eyebrow raised.

"Now that is a little bit of a surprise. Let's just say it'll take 3 hours to get there." Ender said. My mouth dropped open, are you kidding me. 3 hours?! Ender grabbed his backpack off the table and started walking to the door.

"Ok." Was all I could say as I followed him out the door.

Guess what. Ender's air conditioner in his car is broken. I figured that out in the first hour of our drive. I had leaned forward to turn up the air when he said.

"yeah sorry, air conditioner's a little bit dodgy." So I spent the first hour reading.

"What are you reading?" Ender asked, breaking the silence because guess what. His radio is broken too.

"Waterfall." I said, holding up the book for Ender to see.

"What's it about?"

"Why do you care?"

"Sorry, sorry. Just trying to start conversation is all." I turned back to my book.

Two hours in, I started to look at the scenery. There wasn't much, just palm trees and desert.

"Are you sure you know where you're going?" I asked, suddenly not recognizing any of the places passing by on the signs.

"Yes of course, I know where I'm going. What are you doing?" Ender asked. I hadn't even realized it but I had taken out the bag of Fruit Loops I had made myself back at the apartment and was eating them.

"I'm just eating some snack cereal." I said, looking slightly confused.

"That's weird. You're weird." Ender scoffed.

"Ender, ENDER!" I screamed.

"What?!"

"You're on the wrong side of the road. What the hell are you doing?!" I screeched. Wrenching the wheel to the side to get us on the right side.

"Oh oops." Ender chuckled. I stared at him furious.

"What the hell man! We could've gotten hit by something!" I yelled.

"Calm down Lyric, no one was coming." Ender said.

"That's not the point! There could have been!"

"Lyric don't be such a backseat driver!" Ender yelled back.

"I'm not! You're just being really stupid right now!"

"Lyric stop! You're just trying to make me feel bad because your mommy and daddy died! I know what I'm doing! I'm not a drunk like your father."

"Ender..." I warned.

"That's what happened right? Your daddy was drunk when he drove you and your mother home. Then he drove it off a cliff because he was arguing with your mom. Look where that landed him! In the ground!" Ender yelled.

"Stop the car Ender." I said. Tears threatening to escape. Surprisingly he pulled over and parked it on the side of the road beside a wheat field. I opened the truck door and got out. Slamming it shut behind me. I walked out into the middle of the field and just sat there. I heard Ender walk up behind me.

" Lyric..." He started but I put my hand up and turned around all my sadness boiling down to anger.

"Just stop Ender! I don't know why you did that but I don't care okay. You don't know anything about my family, so you can just stop. Sure you know what happened that night. But my dad was never like that, something happened. I don't know what but something did. You can say all you want about my family, but don't talk about my dad as just a drunk guy." I said. Ender stared at me and I stared straight back. He looked away first.

"Lyric... I'm so sorry. I was out of line." He said. I just nodded and got back in the truck.

"Are we still going to this mystery place?" I asked.

Ender looked at me. "Yeah, but I might as well tell you. There's a cat café about one hour away from here and I remember you saying in high school how you liked cats."

"Yeah, okay. That sounds actually like fun." I said, he then started up the truck and began to drive. For the next hour he thought I was sleeping. But I was sitting there thinking about my hatred for him.
