Rex's POV

I wake up in a room that I can't see, tied to a chair and blindfolded. I don't know how long I sit there with the blindfold on, but eventually it comes off and I am blinded by a bright, white light.

"Hello, boy. I believe your name is Rex, correct?" A female voice says in front of the light.

As my vision clears, I see a woman with long, brown hair and deep brown eyes. She reminds me of someone I know... She reminds me of Valerie! Could they be related, somehow? That can't be possible, we're 1000 years in the past. The resemblance shouldn't be this close.

"Who are you? Where am I?" I demand.

"Very inquisitive. I like that. I am Ms. Korrin, otherwise known as Preeminence and you are in my dark palace. Now, let's get down to business. What do you know about girl named Valletta?" she asks.

'Valletta?! I need to find out what she knows about her,' I think before answering, "I don't know anything. Maybe you could jog my memory."

"I can see what she likes about you," I look up, surprised. "So you do know her?"

"What do you claim she said about me?" I slyly ask.

"She, well, not really said, but thought that you were funny, sweet, smart, and cute. Does that jog your memory, Rex?" she asks me.

"No," I answer, defiantly.

"Well, if that doesn't jog your memory, a mind reader could do it without any problems, but I prefer this way," she starts.

"Why do you want me, anyways?" I ask, straining against the things binding my wrists to the back of my chair.

"You are the closest one to Valletta of your group. You can't deny it, a mind reader scanned your mind to find this information. Now tell me where she is, or this will not end well for you or your friends," she demands.

"I don't know where that girl is! I haven't seen her for years!" I tell the lady.

"Really? One of my spies saw walking with her before you were separated," she says.

"No. There's no way that Valerie is Valletta! She would have remembered me if she was!" I reason.

"Look at the facts, same hair, same eyes, same face. It's obvious that they're the same person, Rex. Just accept it and tell me everything you know," she persuades.

"No! How many times do I have to say it?! I'm not telling you anything!" I yell.

"I hate to do this, but, Shade, could you come in please?" A person in a dark cloak of shadows walks into the room. "Rex, meet the person that will get the information out of you," she introduces.

"This is your last warning: tell me willingly, or I will be forced to use the hard way," she says.

"My answer is still no!" I exclaim.

"That's too bad, then. Shade, do your thing," Ms. Korrin leaves the room.

"She tried to warn you, kid. You chose the hard way, and now it's my turn," a ball of shadows grows in her right hand, and a bright light envelopes the other.
