Dan's POV
In the duration of the class I find myself in a situation I never thought I could be in. Link finally sees what I see in Amber but it's too soon. For his and my own sake, he should've at least waited until after college. School is simply the most tightly wound prison for judgment and cruelty and after it's all over, 180 days will be spent with only one person. And the love of his life can't judge him for loving her. See what I mean?
Now I can't stop wondering how I will get Link to face my logic head on. Something tells me he won't care as much about the possibility of everyone turning on him. Not to mention Amber turning on him. I can try explaining it all but then knowing him, he will just ignore me and say I that I'm crazy. 'Oh Danny, you're so silly. Amber would never do that to me. She loves me, remember?' Yeah, when you were hers to love.
Hmm...maybe an example would give me a stronger argument. Perhaps someone else who has already had the misfortune of getting sucked into Tracy's crowd. Obviously, the fastest person to come to mind is her best friend Phil Lester, the second most made fun of student at Patterson Park High School. We don't talk to each other at all. It's bizarre to think we were once friends. Lucky for me, it was long enough ago that I don't remember too much of it. It makes everything easier to just keep it in the back of my mind and live life older and wiser.
So yes, that's what I'll do. At the end of this lesson I'll get Link alone and explain my theory using Phil Lester as proof. It might not work but this is only plan A.
Phil's POV
It was an easier life in third grade. And every year before then. No one was divided into groups of who society says you should be friends with. I had a lot of friends in elementary school that I don't even say hello to in the hallways now. But back then I guess I was also more social, more willing to laugh along with other people. And maybe it's just easier to assume that all jocks are dimwitted and inappropriate all the time; that all band geeks only listen to classical music; that people who follow the trends are unoriginal and no fun. Back then, nobody thought those things. Back then, if someone was a good playmate they were a keeper.
Man, I wish I could go back.
{The room is dark and Mr.Bluett is playing a video on the projector about volcanoes. The narrator's voice isn't happy enough and all I want to do is make lots of noise with my friends. I'm not allowed to though because Mr.Bluett told us to pay attention to the movie.
What he doesn't know is that I'm actually passing notes with my friend Dodie. We're talking about what worms eat. She thinks they eat the ground, I wonder if they even have mouths.
Finally, Mr.Bluett says we can have a break. I bolt out of my chair and join Dodie at her desk group. Behind her is Dan Howell and he asks me if we were passing notes during the movie. I tell him yes, but please don't tell Mr.Bluett. He complains that he wants someone to pass notes with during the second half. Because I am so nice and he's one more person to talk to, I tell him that I will gladly do it. He seems happy by that and it makes me happy.
The break comes to an end and we all sit back down in our chairs as the movie continues. I start writing a note to Dan instead of Dodie. I ask him what he thinks about how worms eat. He replies with, 'they lick it up with their very long tongues'. I wonder where a tiny, thin worm would fit a very long tongue. Maybe the tongues are always hanging out but they're invisible. Yes, that must be it.
We write back and forth for awhile about anything we can think of and when the movie's over, Dan has the scrap of paper. When I ask to see what he wrote, he doesn't give it to me. That wasn't the smart thing to do and now I am very curious and will stop at nothing to get that note.
