Renko kept training with Kuzo as they flew to Republic City. Fire bending felt as natural as metal bending and Renko caught on quickly. As they neared the relatively young nation a secret meeting was occurring.
On the island of Whale Tail, a group of eight sat in a ring while a crowd of people sat around watching. They were hidden in an underground chamber and they spoke in hushed voices. The leader, a woman with bright red hair and golden eyes began to speak.
"The seeds of chaos are being sown," she turned her head to address the other seven. "The bombing in Zaofu was just an example of our power. The world sees us a radical religion, but we are so much more than that."
A young woman, the same from the bombing, lifted her head to speak. She wasn't one of the eight, she sat on the edge. "We seek the total separation of Humans and Spirits!"
The redheaded woman eyed her and she got quiet. She began twisting her strawberry blonde hair in anxiety.
"Yes," the redheaded woman said. "My daughter is correct. The world was better off with the two separate. Spirits are a danger to us and our kind. The Avatar was supposed to be the bridge between the worlds but she failed. She forced us together and what happened? The destruction of a city, the near obliteration of the world, and a permanent mark on humanity."
One of the eight, a man, raised his hand. It was not a human hand. Where there was flesh was fur and claws. His face was a chimera of a human and a beast. When he spoke, it was the voice of an old man.
"As you all know, the dangers of man entering the Spirit World are not shared with spirits. A spirit fused with my body and made me into a monster. This mark, cannot be justified."
"We know the Avatar is on his way to The United Republic. We can move the date of our next demonstration in time for when he arrives," said another man of the eight.
"We can end him and his bond with Raava."
"Mother," the strawberry blonde spoke again. "I know I am speaking out of place but let me take out the Avatar. He slipped from my grasp but I can take him."
The leader looked at her daughter.
"Very well," she said simply. "We will move up our plans and Koa," she addressed her daughter. "You will take the Avatar. Or never return."
Koa nodded and ignored the growing anxiety in her stomach.
"It shall be done."
