Sune had dozed off until he was awakened by the sound of metal grinding on metal. The iron gates leading to the estate creaked open sending ringing through the air. Someone was walking towards him. They were visible just over the crest of the hill. When he could make out who he was he stood and readied himself for a fight. It turned out, it was little servant man in a red trimmed tunic and goatee. He hurried himself over to Sune. He gave a quick nod to him and spoke.
"Sir," he spoke in a quiet but deep voice. "The Prince has informed that you would be waiting outside the estate. He has asked, that we bring you into the garden. If you would follow me."
"Koa," Kuzo grabbed her attention as she walked by. He was walking towards the garden carrying a heavy object that he kept behind his back. She stopped.
"Yes?" she asked. "Again, I'm very sorry for opening the scroll. Please forgive me."
"I will, in time," he said. "I have something for you. You're a member of the team and we both need to do our part to protect Renko." He pulled out what he was hiding. It was a long chain with a sickle on one end and a heavy iron ball on the other. It wrapped around his arm with the sickle end hanging from his hand.
"It's a Kusairigama," Koa couldn't believe it. Her eyes were wide and she tried not to gasp.
"Yep, I pulled it straight from the vault," Kuzo replied. "It's a traditional weapon here in the Fire Nation. Those in the army who weren't fire benders were taught on how to use this. I personally don't know how to use it but I'm sure you can learn."
He smiled at her and realized that it wasn't forced. She smiled back.
"Thank you. Since we'll be traveling with an escort I won't need to pack too many provisions. I'll still gather what I can," she said.
They parted ways and Kuzo went to find Renko. He found him in the gardens sitting crisscross in the sun. Upon closer inspection, he could see that his eyes were closed and he was breathing deeply. Small, blue, translucent spirits lazy flew around him. Their little wings fluttered with every breath Renko took. It was truly a beautiful day to meditate. The sun shone brightly and the gentle breeze tickled the palm fronds high above them. Green grass grew on either side of them and the ocean sparkled like diamonds in the distance.
"Sorry to interrupt your Avatar Spirit meditation thing. Clearly, the spirits weren't too happy about my interruption," Kuzo jokingly sad sitting down next to Renko. As soon as did, Renko broke concentration and the spirits disappeared. "Or, were you practicing your breathing for fire bending?"
"I think the proper answer to your question is yes," Renko replied opening his eyes. He sighed a little. "I'm just a little anxious about what's coming. I want to be ready. Oh, and the spirits appear sometimes when I meditate."
"You will be," Kuzo answered reassuringly. He turned to face him. "And, I will be there at your side."
"Don't forget Koa's on our side too."
"Yes, in fact, I gave her something that might help."
He told him about the gift he gave to Koa.
"That was big of you," Renko said. "I think I might like this side of Prince Kuzo."
"Well, don't get used to it," was his response. "Also, I had the staff fetch something for you too."
