Renko walked up to the portal. He lifted his hand and touched it. The portal reacted turning into a burning white, its light overpowering that of the sun and bathing everything in a ghostly white. He eyes began to glow and it was as if a glue kept him rooted in place, not being able to step away or move a muscle.
"Renko? Renko!" Kuzo ran up to him yelling his name, his heart pumping in a panic.
Koa reacted almost violently to the light. She threw her hands up to shield her eyes and dropped the trigger. Starr and the men stepped back in shock but Starr recovered. Seeing that her team captain had dropped the trigger she rushed up to grab it.
Tiulo ran up to Renko too wondering what could be happening. He grabbed Kuzo and tried to pull him away but Kuzo fought him. Kuzo continued to reach out to snap Renko out of whatever was happening.
Koa took her hands from her face and saw Starr holding the trigger. Her face turned as pink as her hair.
"What do you think you're doing? I'm in charge of this mission!"
"You can't handle it," Starr said. The three men acting as protection stepped around Koa and stood next to Starr. "You're mother knew that you couldn't handle it so she gave you this impossible task to get rid of you."
"You're wrong!" Koa yelled in defiance. "My mother would never do this to me I am supposed to one day take her place as leader of the Dark Hand."
"The Dark Hand doesn't need you," Starr flipped the trigger. She flipped it again. Nothing happened. "Where is the explosion? Tin did you set the charges correctly?"
The man named Tin nodded then stopped. With a sheepish look, he shrugged. Starr roared in anger.
"Go fix them!"
Meanwhile, Tiulo tried to calm the irrational fire prince.
"He's probably just in the Spirit World! That flash of light might mean that his spirit is there!"
They heard a small bang to their left followed by a flash of green and dark oily smoke. Kuzo tore his attention away from his friend and towards the growing fire.
"What is that?" he asked his heart still moving at the speed of sound.
Tin walked away from the fire and spotted the three teens. He pulled out a whistle and blew hard. Koa, Starr and the other men saw looked and saw Tin a little distance away. They started to run to him and Starr stood in front of Koa.
"Ton and Tan go with your brother and find out what that is," Starr ordered. Ton nodded and ran off. "Koa I am keeping you here." She whipped out a switch blade and dove.
Kuzo and Tiulo heard the whistle and saw Tin. Tin blew again and this time they knew that something was wrong.
"We need to stop him," Tiulo stated.
"Obviously," Kuzo replied forcing himself to not roll his eyes. "You handle him, I'll watch out for Renko."
"Uh," Tiulo said a little nervously.
"What?"
"Nothing. I'll handle him."
Tiulo hurried to meet Tin and face off. Running up he flicked his hand forming a whip of water and snapped it towards Tin before he could blow his whistle again. Tin dropped the whistle as it smacked his hand. He pulled out a throwing star and threw it.
Tiulo, bending a vine to block to the star and kept running. When he stopped he slid and thrust his right arm forward. A deep green vine followed the motion and wrapped around Tin's ankle. Tiulo jerked his arm back and the vine followed, pulling Tin at his ankle and tripping him.
Ton and Tan came up behind Tin and each sent a rock tremor towards Tiulo. Tiulo rolled and dodged the first quake but tripped and fell on the second.
Tin readied three stars and bent his arm to throw them but had to quickly dodge a bolt of lightning. Tiulo rolled over onto his back and saw Kuzo still standing next to Renko but with his fingers pointed up towards the attackers. Smoke curled from his digits.
The two locked eyes and nodded. Lightning continued to leap from Kuzo's fingers and with a crack of thunder, a blue bolt roared towards Tin.
Ton and Tan moved to bend a wall of earth to block the lightning but it exploded when impacted. Vines curled and writhed on the ground below them and stood like spikes around, trapping them like a cage. Tiulo was seen standing like a crane with his arms over his head.
The fire, meanwhile, was growing. Green flames cracked and burned at the forest, churning out dark oily smoke. The glittering spirits were nowhere to be found. As the fire grew it cast a shadow over Tiulo, silhouetting the three attackers.
They started to hack at the vines. Tiulo ran back to Renko and Kuzo, he turned back to make sure that the three enemies were trapped behind the vines.
"They're stuck there for a bit," he said catching his breath. "I have them trapped in the vines but it won't last forever."
Kuzo nodded. "Thanks. I can't wake up him up!" He looked back at Renko. "If you can hear me, we need your help."
