CHAPTER 61 | A STOLEN KISS
Pyro's P.O.V.
"Mom. I'm fine," I lied, and I knew she knew I was lying.
After all, she is my mother, but I couldn't tell her how I was at war with my own emotions. The worst part, we both know there was honestly nothing she could do to ease the pain I was feeling. My wolf has been under the Goddess's control.
"Do you want to talk at least," she went on to ask, "you have hardly said anything since your wolf was suppressed."
"It had to be done," I went on to say, trying not to think about it, "or she would have killed Aura."
Before my mother could say anything, I exited the car, waving her goodbye before making my way through the sea of students making their way inside.
What is wrong with me?
I couldn't figure out why these emotions I never felt before were surfacing now. These emotions felt as if they were locked away and are now free once my wolf was suppressed. Some of what I was feeling was towards Jesse. I knew it was due to our bond that was still there.
"Damn bond!" I groan.
I shouldn't feel anything towards him.
"Just get through today," I went on to tell myself, "don't think about him."
Once at my locker, I couldn't help but glance around the hallway. Without really noticing, my eyes landed on Jesse at the other end of the hallway. He was with his friends and Aura, looking like an average couple.
For a second, our eyes locked before I looked away, not wanting to make eye contact with him. The feeling of pain and rage brewed from within me slowly began to surface.
"Pyro."
I glance back in his direction to see him making his way over to me. Aura right on his trail, like a little lost puppy.
"Sorry, can't talk right now," I shouted to him before maneuvering into the crowd of students to keep him from reaching me.
I rushed into the nearest restroom, not caring if I was in the right one. At that moment, I didn't care. I needed to get away from everyone to hear myself think.
I was looking over at the sinks that had mirrors right above them, a little nervous about going over to them. There was a chance she would be there like she has been since my wolf was suppressed.
"Pyro get it together," I told myself as I made my way over to the sinks without looking at the mirrors, "stay focused."
I splash cold water on my face, hoping it would calm me down. But I couldn't help but take a glance in the mirror. Staring back at me wasn't my reflection. Golden eyes with a red tint stared back at me. I was staring right at my goddess side.
"Her full moon will be here soon," I went on to say as I continued to stare at the Goddess in the mirror, "stay focused till then."
"Your reflection!"
I glance over my shoulder to see Jesse making his way into the restroom.
"What are you doing in here," I waved my hand across the mirror, covering it with frost before facing him again, "I told you already that I can't talk."
"Why was the Goddess in the mirror," he asked, pointing at the frosted covered mirror behind me, "why is she here?"
"Since my wolf is on lockdown, there is nothing between my goddess side and me," I explained as I crossed my arms, "her reflection is what I see. It would be Vice versa if she were standing in my place."
"Are you okay," Jesse went on to ask, taking a step closer.
I could hear it in his voice that his words were laced with concern, but I don't know why he had Aura to keep him company.
"Don't worry, you and your mate in waiting is safe," I smirked as I headed for the door.
"But what about you?" He blocks me from reaching the exit, "your mother told me how you are training, draining yourself."
"Why do you care?" I asked him bluntly, keeping a fair amount of distance between us, "you may not have seen me when I was at your house these past few days, but I saw you."
"You have been to my place?"
"Since my wolf is suppressed, you wouldn't be able to sense my presence, and my scent was easy to hide from you," I went on to say, thinking it was best to get it off my chest now rather than later, "I have seen how you look at Aura, and the others like her as well. She would be able to fill the role of Luna better than I could."
"About Aura-"
"Jesse," quickly cutting him off before he could finish, "I am okay with-"
Before I could finish, his lips were on mine as his hands wrapped around me, pulling me closer. The sudden connection sent a surge of warmth through my body, washing away any negative feelings I had towards him. My whole body was on cloud nine, burning from the inside out.
My lips had a mind of their own, moving in perfect sync with his lips. His hands move down my back, continuing to pull me closer to his body.
Time seems to freeze as this kiss felt never-ending, yet my body yearns for him to continue.
"Jesse," I managed to say between kissing, "wait."
"Why?" he growled, pushing me against the wall before continuing to kiss me.
Why?
At that moment, I could come up with several reasons to stop—one of them being that we were in a school restroom, where anyone could walk in.
This was the first moment I felt more connected to Jesse than I ever felt. All due to a kiss, how ironic. Yet, I could think and feel that part of him would risk everything for me.
His wolf would risk everything.
"Stop," pushing him away from me to see his eyes glowing reds, "I don't want you to risk everything on someone like me. You are better off with Aura. At least she knows where she fits in in all this. She would be best by your side, and you know it."
Before he could respond, I left out of the restroom, feeling overwhelmed that he kissed me. I could feel my cheeks getting warm just by thinking about what happened moments ago. Something I didn't think would ever happen.
I quickly head to class, trying to forget our little moment because everything will be set in stone after tomorrow.
