"Y/N," Mark says, pulling some food materials out of the fridge.
"Yeah, Mark?" I reply quickly, playing with a little salt shaker sitting on his kitchen island.
"What do you girls like eating?" He sounds puzzled, pulling out random food from the fridge.
I giggle, standing up, and walking over to his fridge.
"Let us make dinner." I respond, grabbing his arm and leading him to a chair to sit down in.
"I'm just going to go check on Ash, she's been sleeping for a while." I tell him. He nods, staying where I sat him at.
"Ash," I call out, walking down the hall to where she's staying in.
I knock on her door, waiting for her voice to say "Come in," but she doesn't answer.
"Ash?" I call again, just incase she didn't hear me. No answer. I gulp, twisting the door handle, but it's locked.
"Ash?!" I bang on the door, continuing to twist on the doiorknob.
Mark comes running, standing beside me, to see me struggling.
"What's the matter?" He asks, grabbing my hands back.
"She's not answering!" I shout, knocking on the door again.
"Let me! " He says, going to get s bedroom.
"Here." He flashes a shiny golden key, inserting it into the doorknob, and twisting it open, to expose my best friend lying on the floor.
"Ash!!!" I yell, running over to her body, shaking her, trying to get her to wake up.
She doesn't wake. "Mark!" I cry out, telling him to call 9-1-1.
I hold her cheeks, whispering in her ear. "Wake up, please...." I beg of her, tears running down my face.
The ambulance come, and same with the police, rushing Ash to the nearest hospital.
"We'll follow behind." Mark tells the paramedics, leading me to the garage, unlocking his car, and getting us both in.
I watch the side view mirrors as we reverse out of the driveway, and onto the highway. Staring out the window is literally like a movie. Everything is so slow, and for a second... I can't feel anything. No pain, no happiness, no anxiety. Just completely emotionless, and you know.. That wasn't too bad, especially in that moment..
"Mark.." I shake, holding my hands up to my chin, trying to stop them from moving so much.
"Yeah Y/N?" He takes his eyes off of the road, and onto me for a second.
"Are your hands shaking?" He asks, keeping one hand on the steering wheel, and grabbing one of my hands.
"Yeah.." I whisper, trying to stay calm, not just because of him grabbing my hand, but mostly because Ash... I don't know what happened, and I'm scared, so scared.
His fingers wrap around my long slim ones, and I can feel for a tiny second the connection we share.
"Do you think she'll be okay..?" I ask, as we arrive in the hospital parking lot.
"We'll just have to find out..." He reassures me. We hop out of his car, making our way to the front desk.
"Hi, I'm here to see Ashleigh Avery." I smile faintly.
"Oh alright, let me just go see where they are with her," the nurse smiles warmly, her vibe is really good to me. She must be in her late 50's, because when she smiles her eyes crinkle, along with her mouth and cheek. She stands up, placing her strong, steardy hands on the desk, to support herself.
Soon enough, she disappears into the never ending hallway of the hospital. I start to panic, I can feel my world spinning much too fast, and I get really dizzy.
"Y/N??" Mark asks, looking at me. I look up at him, seeing his brown eyes looking worried. Soon enough, Mark is above me, or... Am I just on the ground?
"Nurse!" Mark calls, holding my head, and rubbing the back of it, since I fell pretty hard. That older nurse comes speed walking towards me, and takes me into a checkup room, even if I'm not getting a checkup. They have a cot, and some water, so Mark and I can just relax.
"Aughhhh...." I groan, covering my eyes with my hands. I feel a hand on my forehead, I flinch at first, but when I look at who it is, I try to calm myself.
"Thank you...." I whisper to Mark, smiling up at him.
He opens his mouth, but before he can do anything, the nurse rushes in.
"Your friend is awake," she requests for Mark to either help me walk, or carry me into the room, incase I have another panic attack, besides, my head still aches from falling.
He smirks at me, bending down, so I can get on his back. I giggle, jumping onto his back, and holding onto his neck. I lay my head just below his shoulders, feeling the warmth of his neck pulse through his shirt.
He follows the nurse, bringing us both into the room of my best friend, Ash.
"Hi..." I hear her whisper faintly. My eyes widen, I jump off of him, almost falling in the process, but making my way to my best friend anyways.
"Ash, what happened?" My eyes fill with tears, I'm so worried about her.
"You're, Y/N?" A man says behind Mark. I cock my head towards him, seeing a very attractive man, in a doctors uniform. I nod, gulping at how good looking and strong he is.
"I'm Doctor. Corey Gillian, nice to meet you," he reaches forward to shake my hand, which I do back. I put my main focus on Ash, she's not well, and id like to know why.
"What's wrong with Ash?" I question him, holding the side of Ash's hospital bed.
"We couldn't figure out what was wrong at first, but then we did a screening and...."
"Stop..." Ash responds weakly. The doctor looks at her, sighs and continues.
"She overdosed on pills, in attempt to kill herself." He says, checking her heart rate, and the IV's in her arms.
I fall on my knees, staring at my palms, which are shaking. My vision was fine a second ago, but now, it's blurry. I feel somebody's touch, a warm grab. I look up, to see Mark, rubbing my back slowly.
"We're going to send her back to her hometown, to stay with her parents, and she's going to be inpatient for a while, because we don't know if she's completely safe yet." He reassures us. Mark helps me up, carefully holding my arm so I don't fall again.
"Ash..." I glide the tips of my fingers along her cheek, feeling the soft regions of her skin.
"Why..." A teardrop lands on her arm, splitting apart into two drops of water, dripping down her wrist.
"Do we have to take her anywhere?" Mark asks the doctor, making small talk.
"No, her parents are already on their way now, they'll talk her back. You both can leave if you'd like." He nods, looking at his clipboard.
"Do you want to go..?" Mark questions me. I nod, wiping my eyes.
"Don't leave me, Y/N," Ash says loudly. I turn back to look at her, and shake my head.
"You need help..." I run back, kissing her cheek, and leaving with Mark.
"I love you, but I need to rest..." I whisper into the thin air, hoping she might be able to hear me.
"Cmon, Y/N." Mark grabs my pale, cold hands, trying to warm them up. He breathes warm air into them, sending waves all over my body.
"Thank you." I smile faintly at him.
We walk out of the doors of the hospital, and it seems to be raining, quite hard.
"Shit..." He whispers, beginning to walk onto the pavement to bring his car around.
"Mark!" I cry out, running towards him, and holding his body close to mine. I sob softly into his chest, the raindrops hitting us softly, making our clothes wet.
He moves the hair out of my eyes, and hugs me back, his arms around my back. I can just feel the world moving so fast around us, I can feel time spinning in laps, but we're stuck in a slow pace.
I wish this moment wouldn't end, but sadly, all good things end...
At first.
