The 3rd of December

Two and a half litre chicken soup (in containers that can go in the microwave); a freshly made Cesar salad; two freshly baked baguettes (that can be put in the freezer); a bag of pasta; a jar of homemade tomato sauce; a pack of organic whole-grain bread; a box of luxurious Christmas tea; one and half kilo gingerbread cookies (with and without icing); fifteen printed out recipes for meals that are easy to make.

'What the hell happened to "taking just a little care of him"?' Kristen asks herself as she looks down the box one last time. She started out with just making him a portion of soup, then that turned into five portions, and now, four hours of cooking and baking and packing and shopping, she's standing with a box in her hand that contains enough food for the rest of December.

Before she can put more in it or take something out, she puts the lid on, grabs the roll of shiny white paper and wraps it around the box. Then she pulls out a long string of bright red ribbon and puts it around the box, making a huge bow on the top. She ties the card to the bow, grabs the box and walks out to her car.

When she's pulled into Rob's drive-way, she opens the door, puts the box under her arm and walks out of her car up to his door step. Before she can regret it, she sets the box down, walks to her car and drives away.

She forces herself to think about something else all the way back to her own place so she's not tempted to turn around and remove the box from his door step.

He's not home, he's at the gym (he told her that yesterday). That means her small present will be the first thing he sees when he gets back. Kristen feels like hyperventilating. She takes a deep breath. At least she's taken care of him, made sure he won't starve this month. Now that she doesn't have to worry about him anymore, she can get over him and continue her December just like she planned to, without him.

But does she want to continue her December without him?
