The 11th of December

With four printed out wish lists in one hand and his wallet in the other, Rob wanders around the local mall. He's buying Christmas presents for his family, the thing he dreads the most every year at Christmas. He loves giving them presents and seeing them happy when they open them, but fuck how he hates finding said presents. No matter what he gives them, it won't show them just how much he loves them. They deserve more than a Rolex watch and candlesticks.

So he takes one person at a time, looking at Lizzy's wish list first. He glances at the first five wishes before he decides to just find a music store.

After two hours, he's bought five albums for Lizzy, a bean bag and some books for Victoria, a Kindle for his dad, and a new fancy kitchen-machine-thingy for his mum. Four presents for four people, yet he feels like there's missing a gift, a person.

He fights the urge to palm his face when he realises it is who's missing; Kristen and him are not together this year.

Yet he thinks it'd be weird if he didn't get her something. She's his friend, best friend at that, and though he's trying not to think about it, he thinks they're on their way to becoming more than friends, but he quickly pushes that thought aside.

Nevertheless, he's gonna give her a Christmas present.

Christmas shopping. What do you want for Christmas? – R, he types out on his phone and sends it to her. Twenty seconds later, he receives a message.

Your sweater (; - K

He smirks, imagining her sitting at home with Cole, drowning in his oversized sweater.

Something that I won't give you anyway – R, he texts back.

Hmm... I don't know. I could use some new lingerie... - K

Where is all this coming from? Why are him and Kristen suddenly flirting with each other?

Kristen. – R, he scolds her. He still remembers her size, having been a fan of Kristen and lingerie, but that was back when he was having sex with the girl. There's nothing fun in buying her sexy underwear when he's not gonna see her in it – though he did see her in her red thong yesterday. He quickly has to start thinking about something else.

Ok, ok. I don't really have any wishes, tbh. Surprise me! –K

He groans. Kristen should know by now that he's lacking some creativity when it comes to gifts. If you put a wish list in his hand, he can buy a pretty decent gift, but without a list, you'll be getting fuzzy socks and Limited Edition Skittles from him.

Thanks a lot, that sounds super easy – R, he writes back sarcastically.

You'll come up with something. What about you? Anything you want for Christmas? – K

As he reads Kristen's message, it hits him that he hasn't thought once about what he wants for Christmas. He tries to come up with some wishes, but as the question what do I want? runs through his mind on repeat, the same answer keeps coming back. There is only one thing he truly wants for Christmas.

Her.
