Our Love (Advent Calendar 2015)

The 15th of December

Already when Kristen knocks on Rob's door, she can feel the tears welling up.

"Hey," Rob greets her softly when he opens the door. He doesn't wait a second before he pulls her into his arms and hugs her like he'll never get the chance again. For ten minutes, they just stand in the entryway, hugging, holding each other.

"I'm not crying," Kristen states when they pull apart.

"I can see that," Rob says chuckling, wiping away a couple of tears on her cheek. He gives her a sad smile.

"We'll see each other again," he reminds her, stroking her cheek. She grabs his hand with her own and leans her head against his palm.

"Yeah, but what if it won't be the same then? What if this-" Kristen makes a hand gesture between them "-was just a Christmas fling? What if the depressing ending of December comes with the depressing ending of... us?"

Rob can see that she's about to break down, so he pulls her into his arms again and starts rubbing her back.

"It's true that this, whatever this is, happened at Christmas time, and I can't speak for you of course, but it sure as fuck doesn't feel like a Christmas fling to me. More like a Christmas miracle," he tells her honestly. If it wasn't because it meant so much to her to hear him say that, she would have called him cheesy.

"So when we see each other again, there'll still be a 'this', an... 'us'?" Kristen asks, wanting to make sure.

"Yes, but I promise, you'll see me before you know it," Rob assures her.

"You always say that," Kristen says, referring to all the times one of them was leaving for work and Rob told her those exact words.

"I know. Bust this time I think it actually might be true."

Kristen takes a look at her phone, sighs, and says, "I have to go."

"Goodbye," Rob says and tightens his embrace around her.

"'Bye," she whispers, pulling away from him before it'll be impossible for her to let go.

She then gives him a slight wave before she walks out of the door.
