Chapter 3: Secrets Revealed

Teddy leaned back on the couch stunned. She didn't know if she believed Roman or not. On one hand, she didn't want to believe. It sounded dangerous, and she was going to have too much pressure placed on her. On the other hand, if what he was saying was true, then millions of lives would be taken. Teddy sighed. She knew what she had to do. It didn't mean she was going to like it though.

" What do you mean Teddy is the key to winning?" Mandy asked, her voice laced with fear. Mandy's hand gripped Teddy's tightly. Teddy attempted a real smile, but it didn't reach her eyes. Mandy knew her well enough to know her smile was artificial.

" The world you thought you knew, is a lie. It has more darkness than anyone knows. It is home to dangerous creatures that will rise up and join forces against you humans. Once they work together, the will run the Earth, and humanity will be nearly extinct if you lose the war. Also, not only will there be a war between creatures and humans, but a war between Heaven and Hell. You, Teddy Thomas, are more powerful than you know." Roman informed.

Teddy was stunned into silence once again. Mandy was stock still from the fear she was feeling. Roman was waiting patiently for the both of them to regain control of their senses. Mandy was the first to move, and she threw her arms around Teddy's neck. Teddy was startled a little from Mandy's movement.

" It's going to be okay Mandy. I'll protect you. I promise." Teddy vowed. Mandy leaned back enough to look Teddy in the eye. Teddy could see tears shining in Mandy's eyes.

" Yes, I am scared for humanity, but I'm worried about you too. You can't always protect me you know. You can't if you're dead." Mandy cried, her voice cracked on the last word. Teddy had tears of her own at the sight of the person that she was in love with cry. She wrapped her arms around Mandy, and pulled her close.

" Do you two need privacy?" Roman asked. It was obvious he was clearly uncomfortable.

" No we're good. You said something about me being more powerful than I know. What do you mean?" Teddy asked once she got Mandy under control.

" You are... unique. I knew you were when I was chosen to be your guardian angel. I felt the difference. It is not my place to explain, but when your mother was pregnant with you, she was attacked by one of the creatures of the darkness. She was bitten, and when she didn't go through any change, your mother thought nothing of it. She had no idea you were the one to be effected." Roman paused at the shocked look on Teddy's face.

" W-what?! What was my mother bitten by? What does that make me then?" Teddy was past the point of calming. She was freaking out from the information that she had just learned. Her breathing was becoming shallow, her palms were sweating, and she felt as if she were going to faint at any moment. Mandy tried to calm Teddy down, but it failed. Normally, Mandy's Australian accent would calm Teddy immediately, but she couldn't get through to her.

Roman rose from his seat across from them, and placed a hand on Teddy's head. He placed his thumb in the center of her forehead, and the other fingers were on the side of her head next to her ear. The effects were immediate. Teddy felt a sense of warmth flow through her body. She felt it start from the top of her head, all the way to her fingertips and toes. Once she was fully calm, Teddy's eyes widened from shock.

" Before you ask, we have a certain bond, and given that I am an angel, I have powers of my own. Since we are bound together by protector/protected, the effects were stronger." Roman explained. 

" Okay. I only have a few more questions. What am I?" Teddy asked. Roman looked her square in the eye before answering.

" A Shifter. It means you can change your form to any animal you desire." he informed coolly.
