"What do you think of these?" I looked up to see Celeshia holding up a pair of high waisted denim shorts to her long, toned legs.
"They're nice." I nodded looking them over. "A bit short though, ain't it?" I added rubbing the ends of them.
"Yeah, but if I wear them with tights it'll be alright." She said looking at them from arms length, chewing her gum.
"True." I agreed.
She and Jerome had convinced me to go shopping. My mum's funeral was next Saturday and I was not looking forward to it; I knew she wanted to keep me busy to help keep my mind off it. And I admit it was working. So far we had been into H&M, TopShop, Urban Outfitters, Hollister, Superdry and we were now in New Look. Honestly, I was thankful for this day because I was really enjoying myself. I can't say the same for Jerome though who had to tag along behind with Celeshia's bags in his arms 24/7. I laughed as I caught a glance at him now, sitting on a stool playing on his phone, shopping bags barricaded by his feet.
"I need to get myself some new Timbs, my old one's are looking rough," she said going through a rack of dresses on sale.
"Oh yeah, they lasted you long though," I commented, analysing a crème jumper.
"Yup, two good years but now they're just not doing it." she replied.
"Are you lot done yet?" Jerome whined, he looked like he was going to cry.
"Almost babe." Celeshia smiled before turning to me a making a gun with her fingers and pretending to shoot him.
I chuckled as Jerome frowned in the background clearly aware of what she was doing.
We had been shopping for almost three hours now and we had a lot of bags. I was happy; at least these clothes will last me through the first year of college. I took my seat next to Jerome, opposite Celeshia with my 6" Subway and hot chocolate in front of me. We had stopped at the sandwich shop for a break.
"So where we going next?" asked Celeshia taking a bite out of her Italian BMT.
"Home." Jerome deadpanned.
Celeshia rolled her eyes, "Tiffany?" she asked ignoring Jerome.
"Yeah I think I'm going to go home, I haven't got money left." I agreed with Jerome.
"Ight." she said.
We all sat there eating and talking about college and other random things before my phone started ringing.
"Hello?" I said then laughed when Celeshia started dancing to my ringtone and didn't stop even after I picked up.
"Tiffany?" I heard a familiar voice. I froze and furrowed my eyebrows.
"Who's this?" I asked unsure if my mind was playing tricks on me.
"Theo." His deep voice came through the line. Tell me why my pulse increased and I started to feel nervous please. Celeshia stopped dancing and leaned forward when I said his name.
"As in Catherine's son?" I confirmed.
"Yes." He stressed.
"How did you get my number?" I finally composed myself.
"My mum. Look she needs you to do her a favour." he said before the phone went dodgy.
"Hello?" he said.
"Yeah I'm here." I replied, shrugging Celeshia off who was trying to press her ear on the other side of my phone. "Why? What's happened?" I said confused.
