The story comes to life from here by the way so close attention should be paid..
Tiffany.
It was a comfortable ride back home. Adrian had put some slow jams on low volume so it was a chilled vibe. I subconsciously pulled down a little more on my skirt as I glanced down to watch his hand as it changed gears. Although it wasn't awkward, I still didn't appreciate the silence. I was about to open my mouth and say something when he briefly turned to me.
"Did you have fun?"
I nodded coyly. "Yeah."
I watched as a small smirk grew on his lips. "Bunning weed and that."
I smiled a little and turned to look out the window, "Whatever."
His phone started ringing and his face changed before he picked up, using one hand to drive.
"Yeah." He tone was brisk.
"…"
"Driving."
"…."
"Nah."
"…."
"I don't know. Ask Ruben init."
I could hear the person on the other line but couldn't make out whether it was a boy or girl. I was curious to know why he's whole demeanour had changed and why he was giving blunt replies. Who was Ruben?
"Come pick it up after. I'm busy now." From the corner of my eye, I saw him glance at me but I kept my gaze firmly outside the window.
"Look, don't f*cking bell my line again. I'll call you to get it." He tried to lower his tone but I could still obviously hear him. He locked off and put his phone back near the gear stick.
I bit on my lip nervously as the slow song continued to play.
"So yeah what we're we saying?"
I turned to him, "You were asking me about the party."
"Oh yeah." He smiled.
I blinked at how fast he back to normal.
"So I hear your birthday is coming up?"
I frowned, "How do you know?"
"I heard you telling Natalie."
"Oh." I shrug. "Yeah."
"Eighteenth?"
"Yup." I popped the p.
"What you doing for it?"
"My friends want to go out for a meal and then go out clubbing."
He stopped at a red light and turned to me. "Why do you sound like that?"
I looked away and shook my head suddenly feeling overwhelmed.
"It's going to be my first birthday without my mum."
I swallow and try to send the thought to the back of my mind. This was the first time I told someone about how I truly felt about my upcoming birthday. Hanging out with my friends and Theodore has helped me to move on and not think about it but I'm not always with them. When I'm alone, I can’t stop my thoughts going back to her. There were even times when I would look around my new room and feel like I was at a hotel. It wasn't mine.
I missed my house.
I missed my room.
I missed my mum.
