he unconsciously kept checking his suit pocket for the envelope, it being the last thing he had of him.

it was all officially over.

he drove home with his parents after a while, silent the entire time. he didn't dare open the envelope in their presence. if they asked, he'd probably cry. and he had promised not to cry.

he skipped dinner too. he was too tired and didn't have the stomach for anything. his parents let him go.

he laid on his bed, staring at the envelope for a long time. it was old, but the text was new.

he didn't open it that night. he held on to it as he fell asleep.
