Are we going to die?

It had been weeks since they left the destroyed camp and their first contact with a fellow survivor was his last.

Doc finally came to his senses and broke the silence.
"Guys, we gotta get to one of those planes!"
"Is he dead?" Little Rachael asked. Doc chewed his lip thoughtfully unsure of whether to give the child the terrifying truth.
"Nah, he'll be fine." He gave a week smile wishing he was right. The girl burst into tears and cried out;
"He is dead, don't hide it from me! Don't say that some people never wake up! He is just dead!" Foxy placed his one hand on her shaking shoulder and pulled her into a soothing hug.
"Aye, lass. He be dead, but tha' be part of life. Now let's get on with ours." Rachael sniffled and buried her face in the fox's matted fur before the pirate decided to keep his distance, earning confused looks from both the children and Doc.

"First thing is first; Bonnie entertain the children while Goldie, Chica, Foxy, Doc and I paint SOS on the roof." Freddy's orders are clear and simple. Bonnie kept the kids out of trouble while the rest got the spray paint and a mask for Doc. They silently took down the boards on the door and tiptoed outside with caution over to the ladder. Each sense alert for danger. Goldie met them at the top since he could teleport short distances. Chica made the outlines for the letters while the others began to colour them in red. A small breeze made Doc shiver.

Foxy's ears flicked in the direction of a noise, since his were the only ears that could rotate, and stood bolt upright like a meerkat. Freddy and Goldie paused and turned their heads to spot a plane in the distance. They nudged Doc and Chica with great urgency pointing at the sky. Everyone then looked at Freddy and Doc for their next order.
"RUN!" They said in unison as they ran for the ladder. Foxy got there first and slid down, then running straight into the building, he screeched along with Goldie;
"RUN!!!" Before grabbing every weapon they could and darting into the forest with Bonnie and the children hot on their tails without asking what they were running from or to.

"We're not gonna get there in time!" Bonnie fretted after being told where they were going. Freddy couldn't help but think the same and so nodded to Foxy as a silent signal. The pirate raced ahead on all fours, hook scraping the ground, and dove into the foliage.

They reached a huge clearing just in time to see the plane take off. Foxy leaped into the air at an unimaginable height grabbing hold of the loading hatch that was now closing.
"Please, stop! Me mates be down there!" He swung his legs as the ground got further and further away. Dispite Bonnie being a tall rabbit, he couldn't dream of jumping as high as the plane was now.
