Carter calmly sat in my lap drinking her bottle while I attempted to study. Since the lights in our apartment were still cut off, I was downstairs at my friends apartment. Jordan and I had been friends ever since Chris and I moved here about two years ago. We just instantly clicked the first time we actually talked. When I found out I was pregnant with Carter, she helped me out so much. Since she already had a son, she was a big help with giving me advice since I didn't have anyone else to give me any.
I sighed loudly, rubbing my temples feeling a huge headache coming on. Jordan came out of the kitchen with her son, Jamari on her hip. She sat down on the sofa next to me while Jamari went to play with his toy trucks that were on the floor.
"Girl." She rolled her eyes. "You still trying to do that school shit?"
"Yes." I looked over at her. "I'm not tryna live in these apartments and work a shitty ass job all my life. I wanna be able to give Carter anything she wants."
"I get it, I get it." She held her hands up. "I'm just saying. Why stress yourself out like this Nique. It's not good for you."
"I don't care." I turned back to my book. "I need to get out of here and getting my degree is the way out."
"And what does Chris think about you stressing yourself out like this?" She questioned.
"He doesn't care." I rolled my eyes hearing his name. "All he cares about is getting a quick high and hanging out with his friends."
"That's not cool at all." She sighed. "He really needs to get it together."
"Who you telling." I huffed.
She shrugged her shoulders and went back to watching the latest episode of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta. I highlighted my last section of notes and closed the book, putting it back in my bag. Right as I was getting up from the sofa, someone knocked on Jordan's door. I ignored it and continued to get my stuff together. Jordan got up and went to the door to answer it, looking through the peephole before doing so.
"Oh hey Chris." She said, rolling her eyes.
"Wassup Jordan." He greeted her.
I heard him walk up behind me and I instantly cursed under my breath. I wasn't in the mood to even be around him right now. I ignored his presence and continued to get Carter's stuff together. I felt his arms wrap around my waist and I blew air out of my mouth in irritation. Carter cooed and squealed seeing Chris's face.
"Hey daddy's baby." He picked her up and kissed her juicy cheeks. "You missed daddy huh?"
She babbled loudly as if she was answering his question. I hid my smile as I slung my bag and her baby bag over my shoulder. I couldn't deny that their relationship was the cutest thing ever to watch. Chris walked over to Jamari and lifted him into his other arm making him erupt into a fit of laughs. He bounced the kids around, making them laugh loudly.
"Chris put my baby down, he just ate and if he throws up you're cleaning it up." Jordan fussed, smacking his arm.
