Long Shadows

The beads in his hand were so tempting. They called out to her with a million memories, drawing her in, urging her to take them as fear of what she was about to do was nearly overcome by the desire to return with one swift movement of her hand.

She looked at the beads, then looked at Anakin.

"You're reckless, little one. You never would have made it as Obi-Wan's padawan."

Back down at the braid, to Anakin again.

"But you might just make it as mine."

Ahsoka reached out a hand to take it, and end her maelstrom of emotions.

Something stopped that hand before it reached the braid.

Ahsoka hesitated, balancing between two polar lives, as Anakin offered her the string of beads hopefully.

Finally she made her decision, or perhaps the decision made her. Maybe she had always known.

Ahsoka took Anakin's hand in her own, and closed it around the braid with the other.

She met Anakin's gaze one last time, as his filled with despair, worst fears realised.

When she spoke, it didn't sound like her voice. She was surprised she could talk at all.

"I'm sorry Master, but I'm not coming back."

Ahsoka pulled away and left him there, the beads still in his hand.

Walking through the cream arches with a heart heavier than the stone the temple was made from, Ahsoka left behind everything she'd ever known since her earliest days on Shili. The realisation of her actions had not sunk in yet- that would come later, much later, in another temple at another time.

Here and now, there was only sorrow and a sense of rightness.

The first she knew of Anakin was the echoing sound of his footsteps and the call of his voice. "Ahsoka!"
"Ahsoka, wait!"

She kept walking, knowing tears would fall if she let herself answer his pleas.

"Ahsoka, I need to talk to you!"

She stopped just short of the steps down to her new life, and turned to face Anakin, casting long shadows on the polished stone.

"Why... are you doing this?" he asked in despair.

"The council didn't trust me. So how can I trust myself?" the young Togruta countered, turning away again.

"What about me?" pointed out Anakin desperately. "I believed in you, I stood by you!" His voice took an angry turn towards the end, his mind overloaded with disbelief and sadness.

For the last time Ahsoka met his eyes. "I know you believe in me, Anakin, and I'm grateful for that. But this isn't about you. I can't stay here any longer!"

"The Jedi Order is your life! You can't just throw it away like this! Ahsoka, you are making a mistake."

"Maybe," she replied. "But I have to sort this out on my own. Without the council... and without you."

"I understand." he confessed, neither looking at the other. "More than you realise, I understand wanting to walk away from the Order."

"I know," Ahsoka replied simply, and walked away from everything she knew, to a new life, a new future, and as she descended the steps she knew there was only one place she had left.

Onderon.

*AND NOW... LUXSOKAAAAAA! HOW IS THERE SO MUCH WRITING MATERIAL IN TWO MINUTES OF CGI... But seriously you guys. I already did a big long speech about it on my other fic, but 300(ish) views! I'm not going to go back into that... I did a lot of it... But thank you all anyway! Luckily this is the last part where I have to watch an episode... Because I usually get extreme feels or cry or laugh... Or all three at once.. BUT YOU GUYS DON'T NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THAT!*
