Ahsoka woke to the blaring of a fire alarm, all her instincts kicking in as she manoeuvred herself out of bed (with a little effort) and leapt up.
She turned to grab her twin blasters, and as she did so caught sight of the time.
Half past five in the morning.
A wave of worry washed over her as she realised that nobody would be awake yet. Ahsoka had been living with Lux for a good 20 rotations- and they had been some of the best of her life.

She sprinted down the hall, heart thudding, barging past droids in a race to get to Lux's quarters before the fire did, although she hadn't encountered any signs of a fire yet.
Skidding up beside the door to the residence, she heard a cry of pain from behind the door, and in a panic released a blaster bolt straight at it.

Ahsoka knew she shouldn't be so emotionally attached- that was a path to darkness- but when it came to Lux, things got... complicated.

The blaster burnt straight through the naturally smooth wood, and left a huge scorch mark, half on the wall and half on the ceiling, and right above Lux: he looked mildly concerned as he glanced at Ahsoka, before realising who she was and immediately shifting his position to hide the smoking toaster right behind him.

It didn't work.

Ahsoka blinked, not sure whether to cry in relief or laugh, while Lux looked awkwardly back.

Eventually he spoke. "I, um... I made toast," he explained, producing a charred and blackened piece of bread.

Ahsoka finally let out her laugh, relieved that Lux was unharmed. "Come here, you," she said, chuckling. She walked over to him and wrapped her arms around him.

Taken aback, he returned the gesture gladly as she embraced him, still holding the destroyed piece of toast in his hand.

"I love you," he sighed happily.

"I know," she returned.

He looked up, seeing the hole in his doorway, then twisted around to examine the burn mark above the toaster, still shrouded in black smoke. Ahsoka winced. The beautiful golden wood was most likely expensive, and she knew from experience burn marks did not come out.

"I spent two hours trying to clean a mark like that out of the Temple wall once," she said, immersed in memory and surrounded by comfort, but still her words wore a veil of sorrow.

"Really?" asked Lux, turning back round and gazing into her thickly lashed eyes.

She nodded, smiling sadly. "Apparently a youngling's training lightsaber backfired. Eventually I just left and bought paint to cover it up. It never did look exactly right again."

Lux laughed. "Didn't they have anyone to do those jobs?"

"Well, yes," admitted Ahsoka. "But we also had Master Windu."

She sighed, losing herself in thought. "I miss those days. There was sadness, and there was hardship, but back then there were ten thousand Jedi Knights protecting the galaxy." Ahsoka paused, eyes closed as she let out a slow breath. "And now..."

"There's just us," Lux replied.

"I never realised what I had until I lost it," the Togruta remarked. "And I had so much."

Lux watched her as her eyes opened again. "You've still got me," he offered with a small smile.

She looked back at him. "And right now, I couldn't ask for anything more."

And with that statement, both their hearts flared in union as their lips met as one, true love immortalised for ever and ever, until the end of all things.

The memories brought up a million feelings, a thousand questions; a hundred sorrows, but even more joys. The darkness that pressed in on Ahsoka every day was only brightened by Lux and what he stood for in her life. Around her grew the emotions like thorns, until she was trapped, held prisoner by her heart.

It would take many more trials to allow her to break free.
