"Hey, A." The voice on the other end of the phone is familiar, but only vaguely, it seems.
"Lacey?"
"The one and only. So, listen. Jessica McAlister is hosting a killer party this weekend. I was thinking we could go together."
We both know you deserved it.
I shudder. It was a different time, a different party, but she's still the same girl.
"No."
"What did you say?" Lacey asks, sounding slightly shocked.
"I said no."
"Whatever. Don't say I never did anything for you."
The phone goes dead.
