Chapter six

I can't believe I just kissed Jay. I didn't want to kiss him this early into our friendship, but I'm not ready to lose him just yet. Gabi was shocked, along with everyone else in her group.

"Ava... what was that?" Jay asked me, stunned.

"I'm sorry." I tried to run towards Londyn to grab my bags.

"Ava, wait!" Jay grabbed my arm. "Stop. I didn't say I didn't like it."

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that." I started crying again, "I just don't want to lose you to her. You're the only friend I have here. I'm sorry."

"Stop apologizing, it's okay." He reassured me with a hug.

"Why is she crying?" I heard a voice say behind me. It was Kyle.

"No reason that concerns you!" Jay yelled.

I turned around to face Kyle, the look of concern on his face frightened me. He looked like he genuinely cared about me. So I decided I'd tell him about Jay and Gabi.

"I told you he would hurt you... I wish you would have believed me."

"Dude, I didn't hurt her! We can work this out on our own. What are you even doing here?"

"She invited me." Kyle smiled smugly.

"Did you invite him, Ava?"

I nodded.

"Why?" he asked sternly.

"Jay, just drop it, okay? I have to deal with Kyle at some point. I do live with the guy. It's fine." I reassured him. "I'm gonna walk around with him and talk to him about some things, I'll meet you back here in a half hour. Deal?"

"Deal."

I pecked him on the cheek and left with Kyle. I looked behind me to see that he didn't go back over with Gabi, instead he went towards Londyn. Good, I did good. I smiled to myself. I walked with Kyle throughout the whole mall. We talked our problems out and he apologized for being a huge dick to me.

                                                                                             Kyle's POV

I was tired of just sitting at home thinking about how bad I hurt Ava. I didn't mean to do these things to her, I just figured that since we're step siblings, we can't be anything. That's why I went to Kenzie the day of the party. That's when I messed everything up. I was trying to make Ava jealous, not hate me. I lost my temper a few times because I know how Jay is, he's my best friend. I knew he will eventually hurt her, intentionally or unintentionally because he doesn't think. I knew the second I saw Ava standing there at the airport, I had to get to know her. When I found out my mom and her dad were together, I was devastated.

It was now the morning after Ava stayed the night at Jay's house. I tried to work up courage to text her the whole time she was there, but I just couldn't figure out what to say. I never knew I could be this upset over a girl not talking to me... even if she is my step sister. I finally figured out what to say to her though and decided to text her. When she texted me back and told me to meet her at the mall, I instantly jumped out of my bed that I've been laying in since she left, and got dressed. When I got there, I noticed her standing by a group of people and Jay, she was crying. I rushed over by her side knowing Jay had done something to her.

Ava told me everything that happened between Gabi, Jay, and her. I wanted to kill him. I apologized to her and told her I was acting how I was acting because I was just having a bad couple of days. I didn't want her knowing the real reason why I did what I did. She couldn't know that I don't want her with anyone else, that I don't even want her hanging out with any other boy because I know one day we may have a chance. She would think I'm so weird and hate me. I also had to keep up my bad boy act, so I can't show her my vulnerable side. We walked around the stores and I bought her things as another way of apologizing.

"Kyle, you really didn't have to buy me all of this." She said.

"It's fine. My sister deserves to live this fabulous new rich lifestyle, "I also have another surprise, but you'll get that when you come back home."

"Okay, well I'll be home later. I have to go back to Jay's house to get my clothes I left there."

"Speaking of clothes, what's up with the dress you have on?" I looked at her.

"Oh this... I had nothing to wear and Londyn gave me a bunch of clothes she didn't want and needless to say, they were pretty much all like this." She laughed.

"Well, no more wearing outfits like this out in public. I don't want anyone looking at you the wrong way."

"Now you're sounding like a real big brother." She laughed and lightly punched my arm.

We went to a couple of more stores before I dropped her back off with Jay and Londyn.

"I'll see you at home later, right?" I asked.

"Yes." she replied. She hugged me and we went on our separate ways.
