I woke up at about 5:45 AM to get ready for my first day of school. I put on a pair of skinny jeans and a band shirt, let my natural curls flow over my shoulders, and put little makeup on. I went down to the kitchen and made myself a bowl of cereal. I was the only one awake. I loved that the house was so quiet, back in New York, Avery would be up singing very loudly while walking around the house getting ready. I kind of missed that, but I was kind of enjoying the quiet.
A few minutes later Kyle came walking down. He wasn't dressed yet so all he was wearing was his boxers. I must've scared him because as soon as he saw me he jumped and his face got beat red.
"What are you doing awake so early, Ava?" He came closer to me and I could see how defined his abs were. He had one of the most perfect bodies I've ever seen. I so wish he wasn't my step brother. It was killing me.
"Uh, getting ready for school. Why else would I be awake so damn early on a Monday morning?"
"School doesn't even start until 8, you had plenty of time to sleep."
"Well, I'm a girl Kyle. I take longer than you to get ready. I woke up at 5:45, it's now almost 7, it took me very long to get ready." I laughed.
"You look amazing." He smiled at me and went upstairs.
I got my phone out and tried texting Avery. It's about 10ish in New York so I knew she would be in class, but I figured I'd text her anyways. "Hey Av, I'm starting school today... wish me luck." I still haven't heard from her since we last spoke. I sat on the couch and waited for Kyle to come back down so we could head out. I was kind of nervous. I hate meeting new people and I knew it would be kind of bad because I already have a few enemies at school.
Kyle came down and he looked like he didn't even attempt to make himself look nice. He had on a baggy white v neck and some jeans and his hair was a mess. He looked kind of cute though.
"So, are we taking your car or mine?" I asked him.
"We're taking both. I cannot be seen getting out of your car... " he looked shocked after he said that and then tried to fix what he said, "you uh know, because uh, it's pink... yeah because it's pink. That's it." he fiddled with his fingers and looked away.
"Look, I get it. You don't wanna be seen with the new girl. Even though you were seen with me at that party... but I guess that doesn't count because it wasn't in front of the whole school, right? That's okay... I'll manage on my own." I turned my heel and ran out the door to my car. I tried not to cry, I can't show up to school crying. I turned it into laughter. I cannot believe I'm going through all of this alone. I put the school's address in my GPS and started driving.

I arrived at school and I already felt out of place. Everyone was staring at me as I walked by. I'm guessing they don't take well to new people. I walked to the office to get my schedule and I saw Jay sitting in a chair by the office doors.
"Hey..." he said quietly.
"Hi." I replied with a little hint of attitude. I got my schedule and walked out of the office. I wasn't going to show vulnerability towards him just yet. I needed him to know he hurt me.
I found my way to my first class and instantly wanted to leave. Both Gabi and Kenzie were in this class, lovely. I sat at a desk in the back of the classroom and tried to be as invisible as possible... that didn't work out too well.
"Well, well, well, look what the cat drug in." Kenzie turned around in her chair to face me.
"What is she even doing here? I thought we scared her away at the mall. I mean, everyone saw little miss incest go off with her new brother." Gabi joined in.
