"So you've no idea why you're here?" The tall willowy man questioned as the four of them sat in a circle, far away from the door. The man's hair was dark brown and curly, he'd said his name was Heath. "Do they expect us to kill each other?" There was Ashley him and two others, a girl about ten maybe eleven, who sat with her gaze to the floor, her ridiculously long pastel blue hair hung in her face and Ashley hadn't gotten a good look at her yet. Her hair was so long it slipped all the way down her back and pooled behind her. Then there was another man who was taller and had clear defined muscles. He also hadn't really said anything other than his name was Borden.
"So," Borden said with a sigh, speaking up when silence hung between them for an awkwardly long time. "Who's what? Me and Heath are werewolves what about you two?" He asked eyeing up the girls as if they were snakes just waiting to bite. Ashley frowned, "Human," She answered.
"You don't smell like a human, you're too sweet to be human." Heath scolded, "Don't lie to us, we're in this together." Ashley frowned and looked down at her hands, each breath still hurt and she felt the pain of the iron powder.
"Well, iron hurts me...And...That's not normal." Borden and Heath looked at each other.
"Fairy," They said together. The girl with pastel blue hair looked up then, her startlingly bright neon blue eyes zoned solely on Ashley. Her face was round and soft but something about her gaze set Ashley's nerves on alight light electricity. Borden looked at the girl and frowned like he'd just seen someone take a piss right in front of him. "Creepy," He mumbled out but the girl continued to stare at Ashley.
"I think she's a Siren." Heath said pointing to the girl and looking at her as if she were some strange and alien creature. The girl continued to stare, her unsettling eyes never leaving Ashley's. Ashley felt off with the girl staring at her but not as creeped out as the other two seemed to suddenly be at the prospect of being trapping in a room with a Siren.
"If they really wanted to kill us feeding us to a Siren is a messed up way to go." Borden said as he backed away. Heath had already broken the circle and moved to the other side of the room and banging on the door.
"Hey! Let us out of here! I'm not dying by a fucking Siren!" There was no answer only silence for a moment, then there was a scream; it reverberated through the whole room and seemed to bounce and echo for ages. A howl of fury followed and made everyone jump, it was close by. Ashley gasped and turned to look towards the door as someone screamed and then there was people rushing past.
"H-hey! Let us out!" Heath shouted.
The Siren suddenly grabbed her arm and leaned in close. Ashley let out a surprised squeak and tried to twist away but the Siren's tight grip was iron clad and she held on, pulling Ashley towards her.
"N-no I don't want to be eaten!" She stammered out even though she wasn't even sure this girl really intended on eating her. The girl stopped her face only inches from Ashley's her intense eyes staring into hers. Then Ashley saw it, the fear in the girl's eyes and the uncertainty. She was a victim of the hunters just as she had and the others trapped within the walls around them. Ashley relaxed in her grip and the girl loosened her hold.
They stared at each other for a moment longer before the Siren grabbed Ashley's hand laying it palm up in her own and started to trace something out on Ashley's palm with her finger. She repeated the motions a few times, looking at her and looking back down to show the break. Ashley frowned and realized she was writing out letters and paid close attention.
"N, A, I, Y, A... Naiya, I don't understand." Ashley asked looking back up to the Siren's face she smiled and pointed to herself. "Oh, you're Naiya. That's a pretty name." Naiya nodded and pulled away from her, returning to her spot cross legged on the floor in front of her.
"I'm Ashley," She said pointing herself, "Can't you talk?" Naiya's eyes darkened and she shook her head. Ashley nodded slowly and glanced over to the other two who were still trying to get out and calling to the guards who simply didn't care.
Then they were silenced by gunfire, it reverberated around the complex like a tolling bell. Everything went still for a moment then more bangs ran out and shouting soon followed. Ashley stared at the door awe struck and confused. She watched cautiously as from the small hole in the door hunters could be seen running towards something, or away from it, Ashley wasn't sure which. What she did know for sure was that both men she was locked up with were desperate to get out, still banging on the door and demanding attention. Naiya had moved away to the furthest point possible away from the door as if she feared what was happening beyond it.
Ashley felt sympathy for her and scooted over to sit close by. Naiya looked at her with those bright eyes of hers, then grabbed Ashley and pulled her close curling up as if looking for warmth. Ashley wrapped her arms around her, finding that she was indeed cold to the touch.
They sat there in the corner for a few minutes, the chaos outside the room hadn't let up but Borden and Heath had given up but refused to get close to the girls, staying by the door and glaring commenting about Ashley having a death wish. Ashley wasn't sure what a Siren was but she couldn't imagine the little girl huddled up in her arms could possibly be dangerous.
Suddenly there was an explosion. Ashley screamed and ducked her head as the wall where the door was broke apart violently. She heard screams and fire roaring to life. The building shook with another volley of explosions before Ashley could even register the first one had happened. But Naiya was in motion; she had a hold of Ashley's arm and was pulling, urging her to her feet. Ashley coughed as smoke invaded the room her lungs were burning already but Naiya continued to pull and Ashley followed, tripping over remains of the wall and an arm.
Ashley gasped realizing it was one of the wolves that had been in the room with her, but Naiya kept pulling and soon they were hurrying down the hall rushing through the collapsing building. Naiya moved with such speed Ashley found herself tripping and stumbling to keep up.
Then they were out, crawling through a hole in the crumbling wall, Ashley took in a large lung full of fresh air and wanted to stop but Naiya kept tugged. Letting out a desperate sound she yanked at Ashley's arm. Ashley stumbled behind panting out her breathes while Naiya looked little more than slightly winded.
Soon they were in the trees watching the building burn. Ashley watched in awe as the building she'd been encased in for years went up in smoke. Naiya crouched low beside Ashley watching with a cold malice that Ashley understood all too well. They sat there and watched survivors crawl from the destruction, limping and wounded Naiya's eyes narrowed as one neared them.
Ashley was the one to grab Naiya's arm this time and pulled her away from the blaze. Naiya followed without objection but her gaze never left the blaze. Ashley's chest churned with dread, what if her father had been caught in the explosion too? Would he still be alive, would he look for her or would he assume she died and move on?
They stumbled through the thick underbrush and trees; both bare foot and wearing only thin dresses. Their minds wrapped up in what had just happened and were oblivious about the group of four they'd just stumbled onto.
"Stop right there!" Ashley and Naiya both jumped and looked up to find the group of four, two men a woman and a white wolf glaring at them. Ashley gasped and stepped back as the woman took the crossbow she held and aimed it at them.
