Chapter Five

ANGELO

I kept an eye on Lola for the rest of the lesson, she sat in the corner near the front with a clear view out of the window. I couldn't let her see that our earlier conversation disturbed me, both Ricky and Ghost had tried and failed to compel her and now she suspected vampires. She was a carbon copy of her ancestor Emerald, but she wasn't like her ancestor or the doppelgangers that came before her. Unlike the others, she actually showed signs of having a natural power even if she didn't understand what was happening to her.

Emerald was a very old and powerful witch, but after Chris killed Andy she went off the rails and Chris with the help of an even older vampire stripped her of her powers and trapped her inside a really hideous antique mirror. Now we'd lost track of the mirror close to one hundred years ago and it just so happened her doppelganger conveniently strolls into town with more power than I'd ever seen in a previous doppelganger. I didn't quite believe in fate, something else had to be at play here.

Lola's sketches came from fragments she saw in her head. The drawing of Scranton cemetery gates was dated before she moved here, so how could she know each little detail? She'd also drawn a scary life like Andy, he looked the exact same as he did on the day Chris killed him. Andy had the same birthmark as Lola and was a master manipulator, he was powerful enough to get inside his potential mates head and trigger a power she never knew existed.

Birthmarks and mates was a very tricky situation. You'd think it was a simple cut and paste, two people share the same birthmark so they get together. But it wasn't that simple, multiple people could have the same birthmark and that's when things go tricky. There were five of us back them who shared the same birthmark; myself, Andy, Chris, Emerald and Ashley but that meant only two couples could mate leaving the fifth one alone. Chris and I had chemistry from day one and I always knew I'd end up mated to him, but Emerald had a crush on both Chris and Andy but Andy more so. Then there was Ashley, Andy's best friend and confidant who was in love with Andy but because of all the attention Emerald gave him he never really gave Ashley a chance.

I mated with Chris not too long after Andy's death and Emerald was trapped in a mirror with no powers. That left Ashley to wonder the world without a mate. But when Chris turned Ricky we found out he had the same birthmark on his neck as us, he was either meant to mate with Ashley who I hadn't seen in centuries or walk alone. None of the other doppelgangers shared any birthmark in common, up until Lola. Ricky already felt a pull towards her and from past experience, I knew he would do everything in his power to keep Lola safe until she was ready to know about her heritage.

"Alright class I'll see you tomorrow, have a good night."

The art class quickly pack up and leave the room Lola included. I had to get back to the house and give Ricky and Ghost a scolding while updating Chris and the others about the potential situation on our hands.

RICKY

The car ride back to the house was silent, neither Ryan or Ghost spoke. Today had been an interesting day for all of us. Angelo's car was already in the drive when we pulled up which was odd, he usually stayed behind after school to do marking. The only reason he'd be back early is if something had happened. I notice Ghost tense in the drivers seat.

"Did you do something Ghost?"

He nods and keeps his eyes glued to the car wheel.

"I lost my temper and threatened Lola to stay away from you, but Angelo caught me and I compelled her to forget our encounter."

"What the hell Ghost, I know you have a crush on Ricky but to threaten his mate is against code."

Ryan shakes his head and gets out the car slamming the door behind him. It did go against the vampire code to hurt another person's mate, but technically Lola and I weren't official which gave Ghost some breathing space.
