RICKY

Returning to the safe house after a successful hunt the immediate scent of blood hits my nostrils. It was human blood, it was Lola's blood. I dash through the ajar front door to hear a commotion going on in the living room.

CC had Ghost around the neck who was struggling to break free. I go to free my friend but a firm hand comes down on my shoulder stopping me in my tracks. I glance up at Angelo.

"What's going on here CC? Let Ghost go and we'll end your life swiftly."

CC releases Ghost and raises his hands in surrender, "Ghost sold you out to Emerald who now has Lola in the cemetery to complete the resurrection ritual."

"Is this true Ghost? Did you betray your brothers and sisters?" Chris's voice booms through the room.

Ghost shuffles on the spot not making eye contact with anyone, this was his guilty posture and something inside me snaps at the thought he had a hand in hurting my mate.

"You bastard!" I growl, lunging forwards and rip his heart from his chest. He didn't deserve one.

Angelo dashes next to me and mirrors my movement, ripping the heart from CC's chest. Yes, he had been truthful to us, but he was still playing for the enemy team.

"Calm yourself, Ricky, rage will do nothing for Lola. We are going to get her back, trust me."

Chris pulls me into a comforting embrace, and I feel the rage leave me slowly. He had this calming father effect on everyone. I just wanted Lola back in my arms, I knew I shouldn't have gone out hunting.

LOLA

My head was throbbing, then again Ghost had smashed something across it when my back was turned like a dick. I reach my hand up to my forehead and when I pull it away I see blood covering my fingers.

"Ah you're awake, come on Lola time to go," Emerald cackles, her hand whips down and her talon-like nails dig into my exposed wrist pulling a pained gasp from between my lips.

"Where are we going, Emerald?"

My mirror image doesn't respond as she starts to drag me amongst familiar tombstones and dying grass, my heels doing their best to find some grip on the damp grass but failing against her determined grip.

"Oh Lola, we're going to purgatory."

Next thing I know she releases my wrist and I drop back to my knees, seeing skeletal remains laid out in front of me. These had to belong to Andy. The ground around us shifts, and I feel like I'm falling, the world I once knew becoming blurred around me. But before I can hit the ground an unfamiliar hand darts out of the shifting world and grasps my arm, stopping me dead in my tracks as the world stops spinning around me.

Blinking a few times, I get up on unsteady feet and glance around. I was no longer in the cemetery but in a wood surrounded by dead trees and grey ash soil. Emerald wasn't anywhere in sight, but leaning against a fallen tree stump stood someone very familiar. Andy stares at me, a playful smirk on his lips.

"Welcome to purgatory Lola, the place I've called home all these years. It's not much but it's quaint. Oh, you don't need to worry about Emerald just yet—"

"Where is she?"

Andy chuckles, "it will take her a few minutes to find us, I wanted some alone time with you face to face."

He pushes himself off the stump and walks towards me but I stumble backwards a few steps.

"I don't want to die, Andy, I want to see Ricky again even if it's just to say goodbye. I spoke to Ashley, I know he's the one you really love. He wanted me to give you a message that the two of you would always have the lake," I mumble, trying to get as many words out at once in case they were to be my last.

Andy pauses and sighs, "you couldn't love someone of the same gender back then Lola."

I shake my head, "times have changed and you'd be accepted now. You need blood to complete this ritual, kill Emerald instead of me. Why should we both lose our chances of true love and happiness for her selfish needs?"

Andy doesn't respond, so I continue, "Ricky's your bloodline Andy, do something good. Emerald has driven so many wedges between people that I'm pretty sure Chris would forgive you because the two of you were once brothers even if not by blood."

"There you two are, I don't know what happened. We somehow got separated, Lola."

Emerald appears next to Andy and kisses his cheek, Andy subtly looking disgusted by the gesture. Maybe my words had gotten through to him. Emerald pulls out a rather shiny and sleek blade, the handle encrusted in gems of sorts and the occasional scattering of runes and glyphs carved into the wood.

"Time to get this show on the road."

Once again I find my wrist being grabbed, except this time Emerald cuts me with the blade and utters something under her breath. Andy's whole body starts to flicker, before turning to a red light which leaps into the wound on my wrist before sealing back up like I'd never been cut in the first place.

The world starts spinning again, this time Emerald keeps a closer eye on me. And after a few seconds, we both reemerge in the cemetery.
