Chapter 35

Harry's POV

I haven't done any major operations since I worked in the hospital about ten years ago and now suddenly I did two surgeries in one day.  The bullet from Shylo's shoulder was deep and near a major blood vessel; and I quickly took a crash course in neurosurgery since the bullet inside Fenris was pressing against her spine, causing her paralysis.  I was very quickly reminded why I didn't want to become a surgeon. 

The entire situation was worsened because I couldn't put the animals under, since the other doctor in the airport decided that anesthesia on animals would be a waste of resources so I had to tie down the animals and keep them as still as possible. Those poor animals; thankfully Zayn was helping me.  The dogs seemed to know I was trying to help and even though Shylo bit Zayn several times, I could tell she weren't actually  trying to hurt him; it was a reaction to the pain. Other than that they didn't fight me too much even though I knew that it was probably insanely uncomfortable under the best of circumstances. 

I smiled as I untied Fenris and she immediately tried to stand up "See you're not paralyzed, you just had pressure on your spine" I said to the dog, petting her face "She's tough" Zayn said, searching behind her ears.  I set down Fenris beside her sister inside a large carrier so she can rest and heal.   The other doctor watched us work but didn't offer any assistance,  I sat heavily in my wheelchair, exhausted from standing while I did the surgeries.  Zayn massaged my shoulders "You did good Harry". 

We both looked over as a girl rushed into the makeshift clinic "Doctors, we need your help, they have returned" she said before running back out;  Zayn quickly pushed me along in the wheelchair to follow her. We quickly arrived at the tarmac where a crowd of people were surrounding the tanks and the helicopters; several were laying on blankets, bandaged up as best as they could. 

My blood ran cold as I noticed Louis sitting on the floor, cradling Cole's head in his lap.  Chandler was nearby helping Aurora place Jordan sit down the ground.  Zayn ran over and hugged Liam tightly since Liam volunteered to be a pilot for the attack. "No casualties, several severely wounded; the enemy has fled from the military base and there were six bodies found inside" I overheard Ana tell Oshihiro who was already there.  "We'll discuss your insubordination later, take care of the wounded first" Oshihiro said before walking away. 

I wanted nothing more than to help my son but I had a duty to help the more injured first as several people looked like they would die from their wounds and Cole was just covered in scratches. 

After doing my best to ensure no one would tie tonight, I was sitting back where we slept as I used a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol to clean Cole's wounds after setting Jordan's foot.  "Do you want to talk about what happened?" Louis asked, since Cole still hadn't told us how he got injured.  Chandler was gone and for some reason he seemed to be in a very, very bad mood and Ana was out dealing with Oshihiro.  Liam and Zayn sat near by, making a simple dinner of beans and canned hotdogs as Louis ran his hand through Cole's hair. 

"I tried to get revenge on the guy who killed my dogs" Cole said, wincing as I dabbed a cut hear his eye.  "Your dogs are alive and well, Cole" Zayn said with a smile "Your dad is a miracle worker.  He sat up straight "What? Really? Can I see them?" When we took Cole to see his dogs he immediately broke down and cried into their fur, it was a heartwarming scene to say the least as the dogs were whining and wagging their tails so hard I thought they would fly off.  "They need to stay in the carrier so they can heal, but I don't see a problem with moving them back to where we stay" I said. 

Zayn and I listened as Louis and Liam as they told us what happened in the attack; Cole actually, somehow, sat in the dog kennel and held his dogs.  I listening with pride as they talked about Ana's leadership skills and her calm head during the entire thing; Louis and I always knew that Ana was a natural leader but this was a completely another level.  "I'm proud of our little princess" Louis said.  I chuckled "Just don't call her that to her face anymore". 

All of us looked over as Ana walked toward us followed by ten or so people, including that soldier that I would have been making eyes at if I was twenty years younger and single, Neuhart I think his name was.   "Pops...Dad...we...need to talk to you" she said.  "What's going on?" I asked, turning my wheelchair so I would face them and not be rude.  "Oshihiro doesn't like the fact that we ignored her orders and went to rescue Ana's brother and his friend" Neuhart answered "We've been ordered to leave the airport in the morning, including the injured".

"Pops, Dad these are my subordinates and the leaders of the various teams" Ana explained motioning to the rest of the people behind her "And...they want to ask you a question".  "We're not leaving, not without a fight anyway" one of Ana's friends said, crossing her arms "But Anastasia refuses to replace Oshihiro, would you like too? If Ana trusts you that's good enough for me"  "You want to start a civil war? A revolution?" I asked, amazed; on the outside this place looked untied, I guess more was going on beneath the surface than I realized. 

"Oshihiro has made a lot of immoral choices in the past and we've tolerated them because we've had no choice; today was the breaking point of a long history of tension" another of Ana's friend said as he sighed "We're confident we can make our teams see that this is for the best but an army needs a general...so we're asking you".  "Violence should be a last resort" Ana said, looking at him with Neuhart nodding.

"Oshihiro has loyal followers though, sooner or later a conflict will happen, Lieutenant" another of Ana's friend said.  "Or...we could leave, we have enough men and guns that we can retake another place; we'll just take the Pheonix's and tanks with us" Ana said thoughtfully "Violence should be a last resort, not our go-to answer" she repeated.

Louis sighed "If we need to do this...then...that's the best idea. I want to avoid a fight if we can, I don't want to see anymore people injured".  Ana turned back to her officers "Let's try that". "Like Oshihiro will just let us walk away with the Phoenixes and tanks" one of Ana's friend said "Lieutenant, the only way to avoid a fight is if we leave and not take anything".  "That's not an option; we need the war machines. If we fight we might die but if we just walk out with nothing, then we'll die for sure" someone else said.

Ana turned to look at me and Louis, a question in her eyes. "We've had a long day, you all should go eat and rest; we'll sleep on this and discuss this further tomorrow" Louis finally said.  "Everyone set your alarms for 0300 and meet back here; Oshihiro wants us out of here before dawn so that will give us enough time to make a choice and prepare for that choice" Ana said. 

Jordan's POV

I hobbled down the stairs, using a cane to keep my weight off my foot, following the smell of cigarettes; I needed to talk to Chandler about what happened to Cole.  I quickly heard voices, even though I couldn't see them, it sounded like an argument "You're going to break his heart you realize that right?" I heard Aapeli argue.  "It was my fault the three of you went out" I heard Chandler snap back. 

"So what's leaving going to do?" Aapeli fired back.  "Get out of my way" I heard Chandler snarl.  "Chandler you're being an idiot, just stop and think for a sec-" I heard Aapeli say "I'm just scared alright! I nearly went insane when I thought Cole was dead since he and Jordan got captured and I'm falling in love despite all the warning signs and my better judgement! I'm just scared! Move!" "Chandler I-" Aapeli started saying but got cut off.  I finally managed to turn a corner and I saw Aapeli on the floor from where apparently Chandler shoved him out of the way.

"Are you ok?" I asked as he picked himself up off the floor.  "Yeah" Aapeli said as he glanced at Chandler who was quickly walking away from us "I'm going after him, stay safe" he said before he ran after Chandler.
