As we walk downstairs, my dad gives a look. His look says that he is confused about the situation but isn't going to question it.

"Hey Dad. How's it going?" I ask, smiling.

"It's okay. What happened to you two?" he asks, raising his eyebrows.

My mom and I look at each other and burst out laughing.

"We had an understanding." my mom supplies the answer.

He holds his hands up in surrender as if to say "Fine, I'll give up!" We all head towards the table for dinner. The smell of the fresh-cooked meal awakens the monster inside my stomach. After we bless the food, I dig in. Literally. My parents both look at me as if trying to understand how they gave birth to a child like me. Their expression makes me laugh and food sprays out my mouth.

"Ew! That's disgusting." my mother exclaims, jumping from her seat.

"Agreed." says my dad, pushing away from the table.

This makes me laugh harder. My parents look at each other, then look at me and start to laugh.

"Are you laughing with or at me?" I ask, trying to act serious.

I failed terribly. It only made us laugh harder. I  felt like an actual family. All bad thoughts were erased from my brain and home was now a haven.
