Double Mistake

Chapter 20: Avoiding

Ethan was sleeping so cute beside me, i kissed his cheek. "Wrong spot babe." He groaned sleepily, then I kissed his lips. "Go back to sleep, I'm gonna get a drink." I said.

I walked up to the edge of the balcony and leaned over the railing, I really just want to remember. Then it all just hit me, I began to sob. "Why can't I remember, that's all I want." I cried with my knees to my chest. "Are you ok?" A voice behind me asked. "What, yea." I said trying to act ok. "No you're not." Grayson said sitting down beside me, "yea I am." I said. "Mackenzie I know you like the back of my hand, you're not ok." Grayson said looking at me. "Grayson I just want to remember, that's all I want. I feel like I'm an idiot because I can't remember anything about myself or any of you, how am I suppose to gain my memory back. I'm better of dead." I cried harder, "don't you ever say that again, we sat in the hospital hour after hour, day after day, and at one point Mackenzie...your heart stopped. You were dead and they all gave up on you except for your nurse, she knew that you could make it. And so did I, but for that amount of time I watched them try to revive you...I was broken. I don't know what I would do without you." He said holding me, "I just, I want to remember Ethan and I. I love him so much, he's my boyfriend Grayson. And you, you're my best friend and I need you Gray!" I cried harder, "yea I know...best friend. Mackenzie listen I'm going to promise you one thing, and it's that you will remember. You just can't give up." He said, "I need a hug right now." I whined. "Come here." He said pulling me in, I put my head in the crook of his neck. I felt his breath on my neck and it sent a shiver down my spine, "your hugs are nice." I said. "Yea I know." He said. "Shut up I hate you." I laughed play punching him. Then he kisses the top of my head, I looked up and smiled at him. "Thank you so much Gray." I said. "For what?" He asked looking down into my eyes, "everything." I said.

"So we're Ethan and I a thing before the whole incident?" I asked. "What? Oh uhm...I uhm. No." Paige said, paige and I are having a girl s day. That's weird because Grayson told me him and I were. "So I didn't have a boyfriend?" I asked. "Nope. You didn't, no boyfriend, single Pringle." Paige said. She's obviously trying to huge something, then Ethan called me. "Hey cutie." I smiled through the phone, "hey beautiful, uhm do you wanna do something tonight? You and I?" Ethan asked. "Yea that sounds fun, hey we should go on that date that we went on before all this. Where you wrote me a sweet note and everything, and there was a rose there. I thinks Grayson told me it was a pizza place where you took me." I said, "uhm...yea sure, that spuds great. I'll see you son babygirl." He said, "ok bye babe love you." I said, "love you more!" He said and then we both hung up.

"Grayson does this look good?" I asked doing a spin, "yea you look beautiful." He said sitting down, "I'm nervous." I said. "Why? It's Ethan, he loves you." Grayson said. "I don't know." I said. "Listen Mackenzie Ethan is a lucky guy, he's been wanting you for a long time...and now. Now he finally has you." He said looking away and clenching his jaw. "Grayson what's going on?" I asked, "what? Nothing it's time for you to go get em' " Grayson said. "Grayson tell me what's going on." I said looking up at him but he didn't look at me, "Grayson." I snapped grabbing his jaw so he'd face me, "Mackenzie I can't, no matter how much I want to tell you I can't. I just fucking can't." He said, "why not?" I asked. "Because of Ethan!" He snapped yelling in my face, I was shocked. Grayson just yelled at me, Grayson. My own best friend.  I felt my eyes tears up a little, Grayson realized what he had done and I saw sorrow in his eyes.

"You seem cold." Ethan said walking over to me as I sat down, and he put his jacket around me. "Thanks babe." I said as he kissed me before sitting down, "this is just beautiful." I said looking around, "so what do you remember about our first date?" I asked looking at him across the table, his head shot up, "huh? Oh uhm we were here, I wrote you this beautiful letter about our relationship, and we had a great time that night." He said looking in my eyes. "Ethan Dolan you're just so amazing, I'm so lucky to have an amazing guy like you." I said smiling at him. "Ethan when did we first kiss?" I asked. "Ooh the moment I knew you were the one...uhm..oh it was on this date." He said, "awe that's so cute!" I smiled like a geek.

"So why doesn't Grayson have a girlfriend? He's a nice guy." I asked as we walked back home, "oh he uhm...he's not committed enough." Ethan said. "Really?" I asked. "Yea." Ethan said. "Ethan are you telling me the truth? You seem uneven?" I asked confused. "Yea of course duh, why wouldn't I baby?" He asked. "I don't know, Grayson just seemed weird today." I said. "Really? Why, was he like lying, what did he say?" Ethan asked stuttering. I know Ethan is lying to me now, he's hiding something. "Nothing." I said dropping the subject.
