The Big Five
Chapter 1
One Tuesday morning, the fresh smell of waffles and coffee flooded from the kitchen into my room. Unfortunately, I couldn't sit up to enjoy the aroma because my sister, Lily, was bouncing on me and my bed. "Wake up, J! Don't you remember that my birthday's today!" She was wearing her pretty blue dress, and her golden hair flowed down gently.
"Yes, alright," I grunted. "Get off!" She jumped off and laughed. I glared at her, but the sides of my mouth slithered their way up to make a smile. Lily ran out of my room giggling.
Slowly, I got out of bed, and slipped on some fresh clothes. I walked over to my desk where my computer was. On the office chair was my green sweater. I took it and put it on. It was the last gift I got from my grandma before she passed away.
I opened up my closet; hanging on a rack was my machete in a holster. I took it out and attached it to my belt, just in case I ran into any monsters. I used this thing for monster fighting, and monster fighting only. Sure, it was a strange weapon, but I was good with it. Supposedly my friend Emma and I are the only ones that know about the monsters that stalked the woods, just on the outskirts of town. Emma has her copper dagger and I have my machete. Together we secretly keep the town safe.
I walked out of my room and the full blown smell of waffles hit and it raised me to my toes. My mom was leaning on a wall sipping her morning coffee and she smiled and waved as I came out of my room. "Hi honey, why don't you grab yourself some breakfast?"
"Yes please!" I said. My mom came over and served me a plate of waffles. I am the oldest child in the family, at 16 years old. Then, there was my 14 year old brother Trenton and my 6 year old sister Lily. Today was her sixth birthday. She sat at the breakfast counter with a plate full of birthday waffles. My brother was already done eating and sitting on a chair in the living room messing around on his phone. I sat down to eat my waffles.
My dad was fast asleep on the couch. My dad is a hardcore car salesman, well at least his boss is. My dad doesn't have a time schedule at his job. The rule is you either sell a car at any time and works over, or you don't sell a car and you work until midnight. I'm guessing my dad worked until midnight again. Working there my dad gets a discount on the cars, so about a week after he got the job, dad pulled into the driveway with a red Ferrari. My brother and I always drool over it. Dad never lets me drive it; it's a really nice car.
My sister couldn't sit still as she ate the last waffle on her plate. "Hurry up J! It's almost time to go!" We were taking my sister to some ice-skating show for her birthday. She's been waiting for it for two months.
"Moooooom!" Lily whined. "Tell J to eat faster!" Mom turned to me, coffee in her hands. My mom doesn't have a job and I think she likes it. She usually just sits around the house, takes care of us kids, and occasionally cleans. "Hurry up J, we're gonna be late, you already overslept." I hurried up and finished my waffles. Then, I saw Lily run over to the couch where my dad was sleeping. This isn't going to be very pretty, I thought.
Lily jumped up and down. "DAD! LET'S GO!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. My dad awoke with a big roar and Lily ran off.
"I'm up!" He moaned.
We waited for my dad to get dressed and then we all piled into the Ferrari. We pulled out of the driveway, and we were off. I was stuck in the back, squished in between my brother and sister. My brother is the kind of person that doesn't talk or do much. He had his headphones on and was staring out the window. However my sister was the complete opposite. She couldn't stop bouncing in her seat.
