Karisma's POV

------------------

I looked at Mark's once lively face, it was now pale and dark bags hung under his dull blue eyes. Scarlet colored blood drew across his stomach and his hair was full of the irony substance. A sigh escaped my lips as I got up from my sitting position and walked into the kitchen.

The cool tile stung my toes as crossed the kitchen floor, heading for the freezer. My hands reached for a random bag of corn and I slowly tiptoed back to where Mark had been resting. A sigh full of anxiety clouded the air as I place the corn on his forehead where a large, purple bruise had formed.

His breath came in shallowly and frequently; I pondered whether to ask him what had happened, but figured he probably shouldn't speak. I continued to tend to his wounds as I worried they might become infected.

The silence wasn't awkward, no, it was peaceful and serene, despite the pain the boy was going through. A whispered cough made my head turn towards the front door. My mother, I hadn't heard her step in to the house and confusion was flooded on her face.

"sh..." I whispered anxiously before deciding I should explain things to her, "Stay here, Mark. Okay? I'll be right back." He sort of nodded and so I pushed myself off the carpeted floor and made my way over to my mother, gesturing to the kitchen.

"What is he doing here?" She whispered, half angry.

"I'm not sure, Mom. I found him on our doorstep, he was covered in bruises so I had him lay on the couch while I helped him." She furrowed her eyebrows at my response and shook her head sympathetically. "Do you know what happened?" She inquired, quietly. I shook my head and explained that I hadn't wanted to make him talk anymore than he should.

She closed her eyes, pinching the bridge of her nose and sighed, "Next time, just, tell me to be -prepared for, I dunno, guests." I rolled my eyes but nodded swiftly. My mother made her way over to Mark and crouched down. "Listen, sweetie, I don't want you to speak so hold up one," She held up he index finger, "for yes and two for no. Okay?" He held up a one.

"Can you stand?" Two.

"Are you hungry?" Two.

"Did someone hurt you?" One.

"Do I know this person?" One.

"Are you related to this person?" One.

She slowly stood up, "I'm calling the police, Karisma, take care of Mark, okay? I'll be right back."

Mark shot up almost instantly, apparent pain in his eyes, "N-NO! Y-YOU C-CANT NOT-NOT THE PO-"

"Mark, It'll be okay. lay down or you'll hurt yourself." I muttered, interrupting him. Vacancy filled his eyes; he looked empty, he had given up fighting against us. Suddenly, his eyes began to mist and he swiftly looked away.

"I'm... So sorry." His words echoed in my head blocking out any noise, tumbling around in the empty spaces of my busy mind. Tears welled up in my eyes, no doubt I had missed him but, he did something unforgivable. If we wanted my forgiveness, he had to ask Kirsten for hers.

I forced the tears so stop and sadly shook my head, "Stop hurting Kristen... That's when I 'll stop hurting you."

I then stood up and walked in to my room, flopping on my bed and sighing lightly. "What have I gotten myself in to?
