The sound of sirens blared throughout the warehouse, the police had been inspecting the area and had told Mark to stay for a while until his mom got note of where he was. I had just witnessed someone I knew die, at least I wasn't in Mark's position.

My dad and I had always gotten along however, he always has to move around the world, to different places for his 'job' so I never really get to see him. A sigh escaped my lips as I was escorted away from the crime scene. Over to my left was the body wrapped with a tarp.

Mark was on the ground, curled in a ball. The bruises on his skin were purple and his he bled on his quivering lip. Slowly, I trudged over to him, being careful not to hurt him. I sat down next to him and stared into his bright blue eyes, tears were welling up.

"It's okay to cry" I mustered out, looking at the dark asphalt. He broke down, embracing me in a tight hug. His sobs were followed up by my own. We both had almost died today, and someone did.

A blue minivan splurged into the warehouse driveway and abruptly sopped behind a clump of police cars. Mark's mother rushed out, looking distraught and worried for her son. I looked over to her, tears still in my eyes as she stood above Mark and I.

"Mark..." She whispered quietly, "you're okay." Her voice sounded assured and hopeful as she crouched down to hug her boy. She thanked me for saving him, got up and walked over to the police.

Mark was unnervingly stolid towards the fact that his father had just died. A feeling of guilt made my stomach drop, I had been pushing him away even tough he desperately needed someone in his life who loved him.

My eyes drooped as I lay in my bed, still pondering of what was yet to come. Still wondering how I could've gotten wrapped up in a situation like this. A deep sigh escaped my lips as I shuffled deeper into the cushions. It had been a long day...

Mark's POV

----------------

My bed had never been rougher as I tried desperately to get the image of my father's death out of my mind. How the hell did I get into this rabbit hole? Why did all of this crap have to happen to me? My father was a good man... But, he had problems, no doubt about it.

I knew I had to deal with this with strength and pull through happily but, it was almost impossible.

I didn't sleep that night, I didn't dream, either. Guilt pricked my stomach as I realized what the bruises on Kristen's body meant. Maybe her dad hurt her too, maybe we aren't all too different.

A loud ringing interrupted my thoughts, my phone...

"Hey..." She whispered quietly. I paused, a long silence held out, it wasn't peaceful this time, it was unnerving and tense. Karisma's voice aired out as she began to break the impending silence, "a-are you okay?" I stifled a slight laugh, she thought I was okay, she thought I could be okay.

"Well, my dad died so..." I attempted to mutter out a sarcastic remark. She sighed and voiced, "I'm so sorry... I hurt you, I hurt me..." Tears took over my eyes but I held a slight smile as I whispered, "It's okay."

"It will be fine."

Okay soo sorry if I spell anything wrong I actually think I'm going to go through and revise some of my earlier chapters. Hopefully, this story will get less depressing but, I think every good story has to have it's lows. My Pre-AP lit class is actually the only class I have a 100% in and hopefully, having this class might improve my writing and help with your enjoyment. You don't understand how grateful I am for 20k reads. To me, that is impossible, like, wtaf. I'd be happy with even 100 readers but, this... I love you all so much, which, sounds weird because I don't know an of you but, believe me, I do. -xoxo
