We have a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, her name is Professor Lark and I'm guessing that when this bimbo took the job, she wasn't expecting her first day to involve very pissed off students.
"What do you mean Professor O'Leary isn't working here anymore?" Sirius asked in outrage. He had been transferred to the advanced class soon after I told him about it. The teacher pursed her lips, "I mean he has been asked to vacate the premises and give up his job." She replied.
"Yeah we know, you've said that already." Sirius replied. "Multiple times." I added. "We want to know why."
"I am not at liberty to discuss the ministry's reasons at this mo-"
"C'mon I wanna know what happened to the good teacher and I also want to know when he's coming back!" Alice shouted from the back of the class.
"Yeah! What happened to the good teacher?" I asked.
"I am your teacher and I deserve respect." She said in her shrill voice. "You haven't earned respect from us, O'Leary did." A Ravenclaw shouted. "I hope you all realize that I can give you detention for this atrocious behavior." She shrieked.
"Detention doesn't scare us." Lily said. "We aren't first years."
A chorus of shouts broke out and a vein was popping out of her temple. "Silence!" She shrieked at the top of her lungs and with a wave of her wand, the class fell silent. I opened my mouth but nothing came out. I saw several other students clawing at their mouths. She had used a silencing charm on us. What a bitch.
"Thank you for your attention." She said calmly. With another flick of her wand, the books that were stacked on her desk floated onto ours. The book was entitled Basic Defense Against the Dark Arts. I rolled my eyes. "Is there a problem Ms VanCourt?" She asked in a sickly sweet voice. I nodded and she waved her wand at me. I felt a small tickle in my throat and I realized I could talk again.
"This is advanced Defense Against the Dark Arts. You do realize that right." I said.
"You do realize that I am not so incompetent that I don't know what class I'm teaching right" She fired back.
"This is basic stuff." I said flipping through the book in disgust. "We learned this crap in first year. I could do this stuff without even saying a word." I scoffed.
"The ministry feels that throughout the years you haven't had a good enough professor to teach you the material properly. That is why I am here. We will read through the books I have provided you and nothing more."
"We won't even practice the spells we're relearning?" I asked horrified.
"There isn't any need. In an ideal situation, you won't have to defend yourself at all." She said in her God awful voice.
"There is an evil wizard wandering free, this isn't exactly 'the ideal situation" I argued with her. She waved her wand again and I felt my voice leave me. "That's enough of that." She said. "Children have no place discussing adult matters. Now please open up your books to page two and begin reading along with me." She opened up the book that was on her desk and began reading but before she could finish her first sentence Sirius stood up and walked out the door.
"Mr Black!" She called after him. "Mr Black!" She left the class and began chasing him down the hall.
I grinned and ran over to Sirius's bag which he had left by his seat. Lily took out her wand and removed the charm from her mouth. "What're you doing Mady?"
"You'll see. Just watch the door for me will you?" I replied. Other kids began removing the charms from themselves and I found what I was looking for in Sirius's bag. "Mr Stick's Magical Stick Glue." I read aloud and ran over to her desk. I opened up the bottle and brushed it over the front cover. Then I closed the book and started to brush around the outside of the book. Pages and all.
"Remus! Hand me the stink bomb that's in Sirius's bag." I said he grabbed two and walked over to me. I pointed to Lark's private office and he grinned evilly. She had left the door unlocked so I opened it just wide enough so we could through the stink bombs in. "One... Two... Three" He said and he pulled out the pins and chucked them into her room. I quickly slammed the door shut before any of the smell could leak out into the classroom.
"She's coming!" Lily whisper-shouted and we all raced back to our seats. We got there just in time and I his the bottle of quick drying glue up my sleeve.
The woman walked in fuming, with Sirius held by the collar. She released him and he raced back to his seat. I smiled at him and flashed the bottle of glue I was holding. His eyes lit up and I watched him try to repress a smile. "I have had enough of your shenanigans. Now for the rest of class you must sit still and quiet!" She shouted and walked toward her desk.
I could barely contain my happiness and she walked over and picked up the book. Because it was fast drying glue, the book wouldn't stick to her hand but all the pages had been sealed completely shut. she tried and tried to pull apart the book but it wouldn't work. I expected her to scream. I expected her to completely loose her shit. I did not expect her to sit down at her desk and sit silently with her head in her hands. But that was what she did. We all sat there in silence until the bell rang and we decided to leave.
"Oh my god we broke her." I said as we were leaving the class. "We broke our awful teacher. Do you think she'll quit?" I wondered.
"I've never seen anyone react that way." Sirius said. "To anything. I didn't know that was possible."
"I wish I could've been there." James said.
"It was a little scary." Alice admitted and I totally understood. "I thought she was gonna snap at any moment."
We walked toward the great hall for lunch and I desperately wanted some food. I was starving, since I skipped breakfast this morning. I smiled at the thought of this afternoon though. I didn't have any classes and a got to just relax and lie in bed.
We sat down at the Gryffindor table and I smiled when Sirius sat down next to me. I wolfed down my grilled cheese sandwich and fries faster than Sirius which was impressive for me.
"You seem hungry." Alice observed. I nodded took one of her fries. "I had an early class this morning and I didn't get to eat breakfast."
"Why didn't you go to the kitchens?" Peter asked.
Lily raised her eyebrows and everyone looked at him. "You know where the kitchens are?" I asked.
"Of course, they're right near the-" He was cut short by a swift kick to his shins from James under the table. "What was that for?" He asked, hurt. "He has know idea what he's talking about. How would we know where the kitchens are?" James said.
"James... What have you four done?" Lily asked skeptically.
"Nothing."They all said in unison.
I groaned inwardly. I was silently praying that they hadn't done anything that was against the rules or maybe even illegal. I decided to let the subject go but I was going to grill Sirius for for answers later.
I continued to steal Alice's French fries and watched as Lily argued with James. People were starting to stare at the two of them when Frank ran in and sat next to Alice with a stunned look on his face. "What's wrong?" Alice asked.
"I asked the new DADA teacher what had happened to Professor O'Leary and she burst into tears and ran out of the room. Someone said they heard her saying she was going to quit. No one has seen her since she went into Dumbledore's office. I don't know what I did wrong." He said.
"It wasn't you Frank, don't worry. We sort of traumatized her last class." Remus said.
"Traumatized her? You broke that poor woman." He said. "Man, she is never coming back into the teaching business."
"Now we're just gonna have another substitute." I groaned. Sirius grinned evilly and exchanged a look with James. "What are you two planning?" I asked.
"If they bring in another sub, well just have to get rid of her the same way we did with this one." The four boys grinned and I could see the cranks turning in their brains. Planning the torture that they would inflict upon the next teacher.
"This is going to be an entertaining year." Lily said.
