Infancy :The first stage

INFANCY: THE FIRST PART OF A CHILD'S LIFE, THE TIME WHEN ONE'S A HELPLESS BABY THAT KNOWS LITTLE

Outside the hospital room a man paced around the corridor as he anxiously waited for the doctor. A stream of Cruses and profanity was heard followed by a shrill sound and  a baby's cry, relief flooded through the man as soon a nurse came out holding a bundle of joy, wrapped in a white hospital cloth.

As soon as she handed him the baby she announced "IT'S A GIRL."

"Daddy's little warrior " he whispered to his tiny child and cuddled her to his chest as the baby let out a happy gurgle seeming content by being held by her father.

A content smile adorned his features as he asks about his wife "Is she alright?"

"She is fine , absolutely good. She is resting. You may go in if you desire." She told him as she left him with his daughter.

He smiled once again as he took in his sleeping daughter's face but the smile soon turned into a frown as he thought of announcing the news to rest of his family , they were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the baby and really thought it'll be a boy. Even though he knew the baby was a girl before the child was born he refrained from telling his family as they all wished for a boy , he had not wanted to crush their hopes.

His train of thoughts soon came to an end as his daughter shifted in his hold making him look at her and smile again.

He moved towards his wife's room and sat on the sofa that was near his wife's bed. It was not long before his wife woke up and asked for the baby as he settled the child in her arms, he couldn't help but remember the day they found out she was with child.

*FLASHBACK*

His wife had not been feeling good since some days and he attributed this sickness ,a result of the fried junk food they had eaten when they went to the trip with family and friends. They have only returned four days back and since then his wife had a constant headache and a weak stomach , she was unable to keep anything down for more than a minute as soon as she eats she vomits it out.

They thought it'll pass away but now it has started to worry him if everything is alright or not. He doesn't want a simple food poisoning to take a worse shape so he did the only thing that should be done in such situation, he got a doctor's appointment.

At the clinic doctor checked her up and asked them to stop by later to get the results of the tests. When they went to get the test, they were informed that everything was alright they had nothing to worry about. The Doctor gave her some medicines to sooth her system and to strengthen it.

Things went back to normal after some days .It was a month later that things took a different turn.

It was in the evening his wife has been running around quite too much and she was stressed too ,as new year was coming and so was their only daughter's 9th birthday.

What a day their daughter had been born , it was midnight of 31st December. As the clock struck 12 his daughter was born along with a new year and a new chapter in their life began with it.

It happened all of a sudden that his wife had a spell of dizziness and she fainted. He acted fast, moved her to bed and called The Doctor.

Though he was assured that it was because of stress that she fainted nothing prepared him for what the doctor said ....

"Everything is alright , just stress and all but I suggest that she should take good care of herself and you should not let her exhaust herself or get too stressed. It's not good for her in her condition."

"What condition ,doctor?" he asked.

The doctor had a look of surprise on her face as she said "She's pregnant, didn't you know?"

"Are you sure , doctor ?" he asked, his tone not hiding the surprise he felt.

"I am very sure she is and I can see you both had no idea of it so far, So, I suggest once she recovers her consciousness you visit me in the clinic. We can do the further tests there, to be very sure. Is it okay with you?"

"Okay doctor we'll come for sure and thank you so much doctor."

Sometime later when she woke up, he told her about the pregnancy. She had doubts and could hardly believe it.

She thought about terminating the child too but he simply disagreed , no child of his will die not on his conscious. How can he bring himself to agree to aborting the child when he has already lost 2 sons. He was unable to save them but this child would live , it was that moment that he promised his child a life , a good , happy and healthy life.

First thing they did next day was to visit the doctor. They were shocked when the doctor told them the fetus was already 20 weeks old.

The doctor asked if it was their first child they said 'no' and then they were told IT'S A GIRL.

When they told their family that she was expecting again everyone was so happy and wished them luck and blessed them.

Everyone on both side of families wished for a boy ,a healthy boy that is. Seeing their hopeful expression they couldn't bring themselves to tell them that "It's a girl", they thought it would be better if they found it out by themselves.

They were told that she'll be born around Mid-MAY but can come a wee bit sooner. He wished for her to be born on the same day he was born , he wanted them to share birthday.

And she did come on a special day. Their miracle baby came on a very special day on their wedding anniversary.

*FLASHBACK OVER*

"Thank you" he said looking at his little family.

"For what?" she asked.

"This is the best anniversary gift I could have asked for. Happy 15th marriage anniversary"

"To you too..." she said as she kissed her baby girl's forehead .

"Mummy " a young voice said from the door. There stood a young nine year old ,their elder daughter.

"Come child meet your sister." The father said to his elder daughter.

"She's so tiny!" the young one exclaimed as her mother moved the baby in her sister's arms. As if knowing the change the child woke up a let out a soft cry.

The young girl looked bewildered as her sister cried and a nurse came in. She (nurse) smiled at the young girl and took her sister from her to sooth the newborn.

As soon as she took the child in her arms the baby puked over the nurse and the young girl laughed and said "I like her mummy , she too don't like the mean lady."

"Hush child , she is not a mean lady . Now, what should you say to the lady" the mother said in scolding tone.

"Sorry..." the little girl said though it hardly looked like she meant it.

"It's okay miss , it all comes with the job I guess" the nurse said as she left the little family in their happy bubble.
