Chapter 3:
I stood up and realized there was a guy walking my way and smiling. I got up and started walking back to my car. He ran to catch up to me. 'Great' I thought. What does he want?
"Hey sorry I didn't mean to scare you but Ive surfed here almost every day for the past two months and I've never seen you around here. I'm Ross, and you are?"
I looked up into his eyes. They were gorgeous. His light blonde hair fell slightly over his forehead and a cute nose and a perfect smile. There was no doubt he was a California boy and you would've guessed by just looking at him that he was a surfer.
"Brooke" I said trying to fake a smile while his smile only got bigger
"Nice to meet you Brooke, so you are new here right?" He never once took his eyes off of me.
"Yeah I just moved here from Minnesota."
"Cool I grew up in Colorado. So why'd you move here?"
Normally I would've dismissed myself from the conversation by now; come up with some lame excuse but something about him felt like he genuinely cared and I needed a friend anyways.
"I wanna pursue music"
This made something in his eyes sparkle and that big smile reappear.
"Oh yeah; what kind of music?" He asked with a smirk on his face.
"I like both country and pop but before you say anything, no I don't wanna be the next Taylor swift."
He laughed and I laughed with him. Why was he so easy to talk to?
"So would you at all be interested in meeting up again sometime?" He stopped walking along my side and studied my face for a reaction.
I stopped also and turned around to face him. Both hands in my back pockets and my weight shifted onto one hip.
"First answer some of my questions." I smirked
"Of course" he smiled
"Do you have a girlfriend?"
"Nope" he laughed
"How many girls have you done this exact same thing to?"
"I'm not a player" his smile faded and he looked almost offended
"I'm sorry I just wanna make sure we understand each other."
"Look to be honest I've been surfing here for two months and everyday I scan the beach and its the same people. Today I saw a beautiful girl who looked like she hasn't seen a friendly smile in awhile. I just thought I could change that."
The way he looked into my eyes made me feel like I couldn't hide anything from him. I suddenly got butterflies in my stomach. But I didn't trust him yet.
"I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow yet." I said in a way that made a smile erupt from his face and he held out his hand
"I'll give you my number"
I gave him my phone and he smiled as he handed it back.
"So I'll see you around then?"
He waited until I nodded and smiled until he left.
I played it cool and walked in the opposite direction. I got in my car and looked in the mirror to see my face was bright red. I was glad it was dark enough he probably hadn't noticed.
When I got home I changed into some shorts and an over sized tee shirt and crawled into bed. I quickly kicked off the covers. Why was it so hot here? I fell asleep pretty quickly and when I woke up I realized I'd been smiling in my sleep. I tried to remember what I had been dreaming about then I remembered, Ross.
