Chapter 1:
The door swung open to my new small apartment. I looked around, it was about the size I expected it to be.
"Where do you want this Brooke?"
I turned to see Jason in the doorway holding a big box marked bedroom.
"Just take that down the hall" I sighed
It had been a really long drive from Minnesota all the way to California.
Jason was my boyfriend we'd been dating for seven months, since prom, he was medium build, short medium brown hair, green eyes, he wasn't very tall but taller then me.
"I'm exhausted" he said as we both slumped onto the couch after unloading the truck.
"Let's get something to eat" I suggested as I grabbed my keys.
"Sounds good" he huffed as he stood up.
We drove to the nearest subway. Dinner was pretty quiet. Neither of us felt like talking.
When we got home I finished putting stuff away and Jason helped move the last of the empty boxes back on the truck.
I stood in the kitchen and looked around. I felt his arms wrap around me and I smiled.
"Can't you just stay here with me?" I pleaded
"Sorry I'm outta here in a few days. School starts next week."
"I'm gonna miss you." I whispered
"Me too" he whispered as he set his head on my shoulder.
I started to picture the apartment empty and I felt scared. What was I thinking moving all the way across the country by myself? I have no idea what I'm doing. The thought of being here alone makes me feel empty.
"Let's watch a movie" Jason suggested taking his arms from around me and moving to the couch.
"Alright you pick." I said as I followed him.
"Ok"
He picked 'Fast and Furious 6'. One of my favorites. I was so glad he didn't try to be nice and pick a chick flick. I would've been a wreck by the end. He laid down on the couch and waited for me to lay down next to him. He covered us in a blanket and wrapped an arm around me. It wasn't long before he was asleep. I didn't blame him I was tired too but I couldn't sleep. I stood up and went into the kitchen. I unlocked my phone and checked twitter. Jason usually tweets a lot. Only one new tweet from today, 'California is beautiful'. That's it? I was kind of hurt that there was nothing about me. Oh well.
I checked Instagram and saw a picture of my best friend Kayla and her new room mate. She was going to college close to home too. I missed her like crazy! She looked so happy. I should be happy for her but I haven't talked to her in a few days and I miss her so much.
I scrolled through old photos on my phone, pictures of me and Jason and Kayla and me in high school. God I missed high school. I shut off the movie but I didn't wanna be alone, not tonight. I curled up in the recliner across the room from Jason and listened to him breathing for awhile before I finally fell asleep. When I woke up Jason wasn't on the couch. It was probably 9am. I sat up and stretched as I looked around.
"Jason?" I called out
"Yeah I'm right here" he called from the bathroom
I stood up and folded the blanket. I went and looked at the clock on the stove, 8:35am.
I looked out the window and it was perfect outside. 'At least the weather here is nice' I thought to myself.
"What do you wanna do today?" Jason said as he walked out of the bathroom towards me.
"I kinda wanna go to the beach."
"Then lets go" he smiled
I changed into my blue bikini and brushed my wavy blonde hair and just let it fall over my shoulders. Then I searched for my shades. I packed a towel and some suntan lotion and threw on some shorts and a low v neck tee over my swim suit. Found my flip flops and waited in the kitchen for Jason. He came out of the bathroom in his green swim trunks and a tight blue tank top and his shades. I could've died.
"Ready?" He asked smiling
"Yeah are you?" I asked smiling back
"Let's go" he said opening the door for me
We got in the car and drove to the beach. We got out and he grabbed my bag.
"Thanks" I smile at him
"No problem"
We walk down to the the ocean and he sets down our bags.
"Wait." I exclaim
"What?" He said back with confusion
"I wanna remember this moment"
I took out my phone and snapped a picture of us. I posted it on Instagram,
'Soaking up some rays at the beach #boyfriend #california #beach #goodday'
I thought of everyone at home seeing it and it made me kinda sad again.
"What's the matter?" Jason looked concerned
"Just don't want you to leave is all."
"We'll see each other in four short months. It'll be Christmas before you know it."
He took my hand and we sat down in the sand. It was pretty hot actually. He wrapped his arm around me and leaned against me.
"I wish I didn't have to go back." He mumbled.
"Promise well Skype at least once a week?" I almost whined
"Of course" he said as he looked in the distance.
