I finished skyping kayla and we both laughed it off. She was too busy asking about the tour and I think even kayla knew it had meant a lot to me. As soon as we ended the call Ross moved over closer to me and squeezed my hand.
"One down" he tried to sound positive.
I dialed my parents number and my mom picked up. We talked for almost twenty minutes the whole time it took everything in me not to cry. I wiped my eyes with my sleeve and tried to hold myself together as the words, "I'm not coming home." slid out of my mouth. The phone went silent and she said she understood. She promised it was fine. Before we hung up I asked her to tell Jordan. I couldn't bare to tell him myself.
"Come here" Ross whispered
I pulled my feet up on the couch and leaned against his chest as I stared out the window and let the last tears slide down my cheek. I wanted to be excited for tour but first I had to feel something inside. Right now my body felt like 1,000 pounds was resting on it. I couldn't move.
"I'm gonna get you some water" Ross said as he lifted me off him.
He stood up and walked into the kitchen.
"Here you go." He put his hands in his pockets after handing me the glass.
"Thanks." I took a gulp and set down the glass.
I stood up and hugged him. He kissed the top of my head.
"Let's do something fun." He smiled and used his thumb to wipe away the dried tears and smeared make up under my eye.
"Yeah anything to change the mood." I agreed
He took my hand and lead me into the kitchen.
"Let's bake cookies." His smile was genuine and almost childish.
I got out a bowl and a recipe. I got out the flour and he managed to find an apron in my closet.
"How do I look?" He said pretending to be a model striking ridiculous poses
I laughed, "very sexy"
He pretended to be almost offended.
"Sexy? What kind of guy do you think I am? I suppose I could take my shirt off and model it."
He winked cheekily and I rolled my eyes as he laughed at my reaction.
I cracked the egg in the bowl and his arms came from behind me reaching from behind me to the flour that was in front of me.
"Can I help you?" I said sarcastically as I felt his breath on my shoulder from his laugh.
Before I realized what he was doing he took a pinch of flour and flicked it at my face. I tried to look away but not before a handful of flour reached my face.
He backed up and laughed as I turned around coughing trying to wipe it from my eyes and mouth. He stood across the kitchen laughing at me. When I cleared my eyes I saw his phone was out and before I could say anything I saw the flash and he burst out laughing again.
"Ross delete that." I didn't mean for it to sound so whiny
"I think that's a keeper."
He smiled as he looked up from his phone to see me throw a handful of flour back at him. He tried to doge it but it got his shoulder and chin.
"payback" I smiled proudly and then tried to run as he leaped back at me. I couldn't move fast enough and his arms wrapped around my waist. We both laughed as he spun me around.
"So much for cookies." I said staring in his eyes as he smiled at me.
"We'll I'm a little busy right now" he tightened his arms around me pulling me closer.
We stood there unsure of our next move for what seemed like 10 minutes just smiling like idiots until finally Ross reached down and kissed my cheek. Then spun me around so I was facing the counter again.
"First lets finish these cookies." He said reaching around me again measured out the sugar and flour while I mixed.
When we finally got them on a cookie sheet and in the oven Ross got a wet rag and wiped the flour off of his face.
"Here catch" he threw me the rag as he stood by the kitchen sink and I sat at the table.
I reached up and caught the rag. I started cleaning my face and he just watched and laughed.
"Here let me. You're just making it worse." He laughed
"Go for it." I stood up and handed him the rag turning my face so he could wipe it off.
He wiped my face and then stopped.
"Got it all?" I asked looking up at his eyes
"Almost."
He turned my face and stared at my eyes and I smirked and in what seemed like one quick movement he lifted my face to his and kissed my lips. His hand released my jaw and we both pulled away. I opened my eyes to see him smiling down at me.
"Got it" he smiled and I laughed.
"Wow that last little bit would've bugged me all day." I said sarcastically smiling and we both just laughed and blushed.
The timer went off and I went to get them when Ross insisted he get them and tightened his apron
"I got this." He pretended it was a tough job and put on his oven mitts one by one and smiled at me giving him a funny look.
I was surprised he didn't burn himself with all of his messing around.
"Your welcome." He bowed.
"Why thank you." I stood up and hugged him. "Seriously though thank you for today."
"Anytime babe."
My heart dropped to my stomach. It finally sank in that Ross was my boyfriend. My stomach felt like a thousand butterflies erupting and the biggest smile plastered my face. I felt like a complete dork but Ross just hugged me back tighter and kissed the top of my head again.
"You should probably go before your mom gets worried."
"Yeah I kinda forgot I have band practice tonight. You should come with me!"
His face lit up.
"I think I'm just gonna hang out here. Maybe go to the beach I don't know."
He looked a little disappointed but understanding.
"Ok that's fine. Maybe ill stop by afterward and we can watch a movie?" It was more of a question.
"Maybe. Thanks again for today."
"No problem."
He finished washing dished before he left and grabbed his hoodie before our last quick kiss and he left.
I sat down on the couch and thought about everything that just happended and smiled like an idiot remembering the way "babe" sounded coming from him.
