Chapter 5

I could barely sleep with all the thoughts racing in my head. I stood up out of bed and walked into the kitchen sitting down at the table sipping hot chocolate.

Could Ross really like me? Do I like him? What about Jason? I haven't even heard from Jason since he left. You think he'd miss me a little right? I don't know but either way I wasn't gonna cheat on Jason.

I picked up my phone and looked at Jason's twitter page. A ton of tweets. All about friends or parties. It sure didn't seem like he missed me at all. And it'd be hard to maintain a relationship being so far apart. Maybe it is time to break it off with Jason.

I crawled back into bed and hugged my pillow and with the image of Ross smiling in my head I drifted off to sleep. When I woke up the sun was shining. Another beautiful day in California. I got dressed and saw one missed call on my phone from Ross. So I called him back.

"Hello?" His voice instantly made me smile.

"Hey I'm just about to leave. I'll see you there then?"

"Yeah I'm already here. Hurry up."

I could've sworn he was smiling when he said that.

I got there and walked to the spot. I wonder what the surprise is. I didn't see him anywhere. I looked out at the ocean and the next thing I knew I heard a voice right next to me.

"Whatcha looking at?"

I turned to see the sun perfectly bouncing off his blonde hair. He was wearing a blue striped tank top and Kaki shorts.

"Nothing. So what's the surprise?"

He smiled

"I'm taking you out for brunch first." He held up his hand and held out a rose.

"What's that for?" I was genuinely shocked. No boy has ever bought me flowers before.

"I just felt like it." He shrugged.

"We'll thanks." I smiled

He held out his hand and as I took it I instantly remembered Jason. I dropped his hand.

"What's wrong?" He asked

"It's just, it's kind of a long story. Look I really like you. But I have a boyfriend back home."

"Ok well we'll just take things slow. I'm ok with starting as friends."

I smiled up at him. "Thank you"

We walked to a restaurant on the Pierre and ate.

"So why didn't your boyfriend come with you?" He asked as he took a bite of his hot dog.

"His parents wanted him to stay close to home."

"Do you love him?" He stopped and watched my face carefully.

"I don't know"

He smiled at my answer

"What?" I asked intrigued by his smile?

"I'm so close"

I laughed "I do care about him a lot. It's just, I don't know, sometimes it seems like all we do is fight."

His expression changed with the conversation to more serious.

"About what?"

"Jason has always been one to put his friends first. I accepted that but that's not to say we haven't had our ups and downs. He's not a bad guy it just seems like he doesn't care anymore."
