While Lalna and Nano were having their chat, Midas was fighting a losing battle. Mother cackled as she wrapped him in black lighting, throwing him around like a ragdoll.
"Some king you are!" She laughed, drawing him towards her. She was about to consume him when Nano slammed into mother, sending her across the garden. Nano felt its whispers of anger, as she had destroyed several trees, but they were just as quickly banished. I've got the mental defense, you've got the physical offense!
Nano nodded just as mother attacked. She couldn't have brought up a shield fast enough, but she didn't need to. Midas opened a portal to absorb the blast.
"Why the sudden change of heart?"
"Enemy of my enemy, all that."
He nodded. "With the Apple of Grisaia, she's unstoppable. We need to find a way to extricate it."
Unfortunately, that was easier said than done. Mother recovered far too quickly, and was far too fast and strong to let anyone get to it. To add insult to injury, she kept taunting Midas as well, throwing him off his game.
"You were always the weakest of the guardians, dear Midas. You killed them out of jealousy. You were afraid you'd never be as powerful as they were"
"No!" Midas roared, but Mother easily tossed him aside.
"You know I'm right. Just like the gold that you use, you're so easily influenced. It didn't take much for me to plant the idea of the legendary Excalibur in your head. After that..." Mother chuckled. "Well, you were even more willing to go along with the idea than I could have ever hoped for."
Midas' eyes glazed over "The sword...you used me!" He summoned Excalibur and lunged at Mother, who cackled and blasted him back. He flew backward and collided with Darkstone, and the fortress crumpled on top of him. Meanwhile, Excalibur lay on the ground nearby. Nano took the moment of chaos to attempt an attack, but Mother was already prepared.
"Tsk tsk." Mother chided, wrapping Nano in dark vines and picking up Excalibur "Now that I've taken care of Midas, you're nothing, dear child." The vines ripped into Nano, and she gasped as they pulled her and Lalna apart. She towered over the two, reaching out to drain their energy. She would have succeeded, had Midas not recovered.
