I awoke with a start. The fan was spinning slowly above me as I rubbed the sleepiness from my eyes. I glanced over at the clock by my bed. 6:53 I groaned. I had slept through my alarm again. I rolled onto the floor hoping the fall would wake me up some more. It just hurt. I tripped over my book bag as I stumbled to the light switch near the door. I flicked it on blinding myself with the harsh glare of florescent lighting. I grabbed some clothes and hopped into the shower. The warm water was an invigorating wake up. I got out and brushed my teeth not having time to eat. I threw my clothes on, a dark grey shirt and a pair of blue jeans, and grabbed my bag. I was about to leave when remembered to grab some money for lunch as I didn't have time to pack one.

I ran for the bus just barley catching it. I preferred to stand so I could get off quickly. My school was only a three minute drive away, but it was either spending a little money on the bus or walking twenty minutes. I got off ten minutes later however in front of school. There had been a traffic jam of sorts all along the busy street my school was on. It was probably just a fender bender further down the road. I entered taking my bag off and opening it up for the security to check. At all times of the morning there is at least twenty kids waiting in line to go through the metal detectors.

"Vinceent" my friend Jeffery said seeing me after I had made it past security.

We both extended our hands in the formal hand slide and fist bump. We walked together up the stairs. The sounds of the school could be heard as voices echoed throughout the five story staircase. My locker was on the second floor as was Jeffery's.

"Did you do the chemistry homework?" he asked as we neared our lockers.

"No." I replied scoffing at the thought that I done my homework at home. "That's what lunch is for."

"True that." the chuckled and walked away "Stay sexy" he called back jokingly.

I just smiled and grabbed my stuff from my locker.

First period I had band in the basement. I made it in just as the bell rang. Not that you could hear it though over the sounds of everyone practicing what they were supposed to the other night. I sat down quickly. I played the clarinet and was pretty good for have practiced outside of school maybe twice. Class went on for fifty minutes. My teacher called out the homework for that night as we left.

"Stay safe." he called as everyone left the room chatting away.

What did he mean by that? I thought. I didn't matter I had a huge task ahead of me. Going from band to English, which was on the fifth floor. Lucky me.

I sat down in my seat three minutes later and pulled out my packet to work on. Our teacher was on medical leave so we had a sub. Everyone was talking about homecoming that had just been Saturday. I wanted to join in but was seriously behind on completing the packets. The thirty voices suddenly stopped. I looked up glancing at the door way expecting maybe the principal to be there or something. When I didn't see anyone I looked around. The kid sitting next to me (His name was Manny) along with everyone else in the room was staring out the window. Our school was an office building once and had floor to ceiling windows for many outer wall classrooms. It gave us an excellent view of the carnage that was taking place on the street below.
