Shit he said off balance from the push. I looked around.

“Not good.” I whispered to myself.

Zombies were everywhere. The entire floor was filled with them. There were doctors, nurses, patients, cops, and all turned to face us. Their mouths opened and the horde began shambling towards us. We dashed for the nearest hallway that seemed clear. We ran past rooms as more and more of them began filing out.

“The entire building is infested!” yelled Noah over the moan. “And this building can hold like a thousand people!”

 We slowed down. Dead end.

“Shit.” he screamed kicking at the wall.

“Check that door!” I yelled pointing to what looked like a divider between hallways.

“It will probably just lead to more of them.” he said helplessly.

They were maddeningly slow tripping over each other as they moved towards us. Noah sat down and held his head.

“This isn’t the way I wanted to go “he said his voice cracking and tears streaming down his face.

I sat down next to him. We had maybe a minute before they reached us.

“Me neither.” I said my voice shaky. “I always thought I would be the lucky one you know. The last man on earth.”

He chuckled “Yeah.”

Thirty seconds.

“Making a final stand against the endless undead.”

I nodded wiping back the tears that were forming in my eyes.  Then I got mad. I got pissed at how unfair everything was. My life was just beginning. I had a girlfriend. I stood up and held out my hand.

“If we're going down we’re not going down without a fight.”

He looked up at me. I looked into his eyes and saw the same raw fury that was consuming me.

“Damn fuckin straight!” he said grabbing my hand and pulling himself up.

He sniffed and wiped his face of tears.

“Let’s go you mother fuckers.” he growled crouching slightly readying his knife.

We charged. I stabbed the closet one in the head. It let out a slight squeal as it went down blood pouring out of the wound. One of them grabbed my arm and I chopped with all my might. Its hand came spinning off spilling ooze onto my hoodie. I kicked one in the knee sending it toppling over onto its friends. Noah grabbed one’s head and slammed it into a nearby gurney. I pushed another right onto the ground in front of Noah. He finished it by slamming the heel of his shoe into its head. We stabbed and slashed our way through the hoard until they were surrounding us. One bit Noah on the shoulder. He yelled and stabbed it in the eye sending it crumpling to the ground. I felt arms grab me from behind. I flailed out trying to hit anything I could. I had lost sight of Noah, they were all around. I managed to graze my attacker as it continued to drag me.

“Fuck.” a voice hissed and I felt the hilt of a knife slammed into my forehead and I blacked out.

When I came too I was lying on what appeared to be someone’s lap. There was a loud banging coming from somewhere. I cracked my eyes and saw another pair looking back at mine.

“Jenny?” I asked softly my throat dry and scratchy.

“You came for us.” she whispered wiping her eyes.

“Of course I did.” I said, “You guys are all I have left.”

I could tell she was smiling.

“Is Josh here?” I asked trying to sit up.

“Yeah,” he said sounding pissed” you asshole.”

I looked at him. He looked tired. I looked aroudn the room. There were nine of them. They looked tired too.

“Shit did I cut you?” I asked turning back to him.

“Yeah” he said holing out his hand so I could see the blood.

“Shit.” I said sitting up.

I looked around the room again.

“Where’s Noah?”

They all began looking at the walls or the floor. Anywhere but me.

“No.” I said sitting up and covering my face with my hands.

I felt tears beginning to form again in my eyes. I stood up. I may have only known him for half the day but in that time he had become my friend. The banging on the door continued.

“SHUT THE FUCK UP!” I screamed.

If anything the groaning and scratching got louder. I punched the door with all my strength.

“FUCK YOU!”

I felt Jenny’s hand on my shoulder. I leaned my head on the door.

“It’s so unfair.” I whispered.

“I know.” she whispered back wrapping her arms around me.

I looked over my shoulder at the small group of people in the room.

“Let’s get the fuck out of here.”
